Is anybody watching the Scotland v France game ?
With a French man sent off and Scotland ahead it’s turning into a good game.
As Italy is now virtually in lockdown is there a case for asking them to withdraw from the competition?

Nope...although Italy have performed as well as they have done in the past, they’ve been hampered by internal politics. That said they are much stronger than other countries further down the pack and their time will come again.
I remember hearing the same about the Japan, the Island nations and Argentina in the World Cup and they’ve produced some wonderful results.
Keep it six nations...

I was talking about this years competition and the extraordinary circumstances with the Corona Virus. Having said that, is there a case for allowing South Africa in ? It would be at the expense of the Southern Hemisphere Nations. I believe they are very envious of our competition.

Only because it would a bloody good jolly travelling there... had some fantastic rugby tours there 😉 Seriously though, as appealing as it would be, the Six nations or whatever number should remain a northern hemisphere/European competition. If we were to look externally I would look towards Canada or the US first. That said... Fiji would be a good addition... their 7‘s are always powerful..

Have to agree, a trip to SA every couple of years would be great. Fantastic country.

They should be thrown out as they are not good enough to be in the competition. I propose instead that there should be a European tournament in between world cups. Whoever comes "best of the rest" would qualify for the 6 nations.

That would be moot because despite their lack of success Italy would win every time, and is half the reason why they were accepted in the first place. Romania for example as a third tier rugby nation are one of the strongest outside the “six nations” and Italy would beat them easily.

Georgia could quite easily beat Italy with their current teams.....

Before Italy were accepted Romania had been arguably better for a few years
There is definitely an argument to be made for a second division. It would increase competitiveness amongst the lesser European nations and enhance the World Cup.
The five nations don’t want it though invade one year they get relegated.
