My point is...... I think he makes a basic point about the actual origin of the virus....and the initial actions of the Chinese government have had more implications in the UK and worldwide than anything that the UK government could have done or did do. Just a simple point that he is making. The Chinese government should not have lied , should have acted more quickly and should have stopped travel out of the country. Perhaps he repeats " slab or lab" to emphasise his basic point, I don't know, as I say , I don't need to defend him. If it had originated on the UK then this government would have been slaughtered, in my opinion. So I agree with Carps that the Chinese government does have some major responsibility in the spread of the virus. Do you agree with his point? so they have a major responsibility?...Ok let's assume the answer is Yes. In what ways is that relevant to the responsibilities of other Government's in protecting their populations? You could say Germany had a responsibility for producing Hitler, but arguing over that wouldn't have helped the allies in defeating him in WW2. That was pretty low on the list of concerns when their was a war to fight. The vast majority of people are obviously and understandably concerned about the management of this virus within our own boundaries, the rest is largely irrelevant until its sorted here. What goes on in China is very hard to establish for people in China never mind outside. Its just a distraction from the job at hand which is not being handled at all well let's face it. I don't think that the origin of the virus and the role of the Chinese government is irrelevant....particularly if we hope to lessen the risk of this kind of thing happening again. I agree that it is difficult to know what is going on in China. Austria actually " produced " Hitler in one sense but yes I do believe that Germany have a little bit of responsibility in their involvement in the second world war. Things could always be handled better, there are different opinions on the impact of different measures on the spread and containment of the virus. Let's hope that things get a bit better in each country now and hope that we just might have turned the corner on the virus...don't you agree?

Massive loss of credibility from the Government, I have no idea how they could have just stood at those podiums and just trampled all over the advice they'd been giving us previously.
And all to save somebody who broke the rules.
It's shameful.

How on earth has that briefing been allowed to happen?

And all to save somebody who broke the rules. It's shameful. The government have made mistakes and I have supported or backed most of what they have tried to do but this support for Dominic Cummings is indefensible. The government's credibility has been trashed in my opinion and that briefing was a complete car crash. This isn't going away any time soon and it's been brought on by themselves. I argued earlier in this thread that Robert Jenrick should have been sacked when he breached the lockdown rules weeks ago, Cumming's behaviour is even worse than Jenrick's blatant disregard of the guidelines.

Death rates and infections continuing to fall. Restrictions easing. But all the lefties can do is get into a frenzy about Cumming maybe breaking regulations and Boris not doing the press conference every night
And for the record, yes I think Cumming should resign or be sacked. But it’s hardly a major issue compared to the overall situation

For me It’s not about politics anymore, it’s about leadership This lot have failed us badly. I agree. I've tried to avoid the politics bit because I didn't vote last time out. I couldn't even be arsed to spoil the paper such is the disdain I had for the leader of each party as well as the parties themselves. The last election was essentially a 2nd Brexit vote and I'd already voted in that particular battle. You are bang on. It is about leadership and if you are leading the masses you have to be whiter the white. This lot (and the rest) clearly aren't. Boris is missing in action. He's either well enough to return to work or he isn't. To be well enough to return to work then effectively disappear is gross negligence. This Cummings thing is nothing short of an absolute disgrace. He's broken every guideline going, guidelines he's seemingly had a significant role in putting in place, yet it's ok. It absolutely isn't ok. My mother in law, a fit and healthy 67 year old is a former head teacher. She would be a godsend for home schooling whilst I'm working under difficult circumstances and under massive pressure. Cummings has taken a trip, when he should have been isolating at a time that by pure Coincidence, coincided with his mums birthday. It's a disgrace. Plain and simple and leadership is the key word. They couldn't lead a piss up in a brewery. Edit - and that's before you take into his wifes description of life in covid induced isolation. Well said. I too am very much in the middle where politics is concerned but I’m past defending the in defence able. How are the Police supposed to police the general public when the government / top bods are breaching. I’m sure there’s plenty of people who’ve had worse issues and stayed at home. They’re probably thinking why bother now. My neighbour breaches on a daily basis and I’ve had words with her and she still continues to do it (on the sly). This episode will be her get out now formally or informally and many others too. 12 weeks I’ve gone by the book both professionally and at home. I will continue to because at the end of this I want to look at myself and say I did my best. Over the last week I’ve seen a hell of a lot that can’t say the same.

It's outrageous. The nation's health is at stake here, people's actual lives are at stake and they're just making it up as they go along. If they'd been asked these EXACT same questions before Cummings did what he did, they would have been outraged at being asked such obviously stupid questions. It is utterly scandalous. Some tw@t gvt spokesperson on BBC just said. “Of course you’re concerns of your 4yr old, should you both get CV19 trump gvt advice” So all those single parents that don’t yet have CV19 can travel to where they want. This isn’t one act of incompetence, ineptitude & hypocrisy is it. No integrity & you can’t buy it...

As for Boris not being at the press conference I can't seem to navigate to the BBC news site everyday without seeing Merkel or Arden's face at some sort of press conference. When was the last time we saw the PM? a week ago?

Shameless, gutless wankers, the lot of 'em.
They have been ramming the rules down our throat for months. At no point have any caveats been mentioned. It has always been black and white. You or anybody you live with get symptoms, you all stay at home. That's it. Clear cut. There was never any "unless you've got kids, in which case feel free to travel the length of the country in order to live with relatives or friends who may provide childcare". That amendment to the guideline would literally apply to millions of families. They never said it and it was never in any of the press releases. It was just reserved for those in the Tory party apparently. The rest of us can get fucked, and get fined for much less for the privilege
They've now massively backtracked and changed everything they've said all along. And they're doing so with straight faces, expecting us to buy it.
The bunch of unrepentant bastards.
Makes you sick to the stomach.
And where is Boris during all this? Pisstaking spunk trumpet.
