Some of which have been exacerbated by 10 years of austerity. Simple as that....... And ignoring a dummy run of this when under no pressure as well. But they've been awesome. What are your expert views on school closures Bayern, good or bad? Should they have been done earlier or not at all? www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52180783

Into our 4th week here too but lockdown is way more lenient than in France from what I’ve seen in the news. What are the expectations over there in terms of length of lockdown? We are looking at June 30 at the earliest. TBH nobody knows, we are expecting the lock down to be extended by another two weeks at least as the schools Easter holiday's do not finish before the end of April. The situation in the east of France is improving and the hospitals are not so stretched now. But Paris is the hot spot now. My friend is holed up in Toulouse & says that his tobacconist is still open because in France they are considered ‘essential’🍷🍽🥐🥩🧀🥮🥃🚬🇫🇷

I'm staggered when reading through Twitter, of the people in the BBC Tweet alone about Boris hoping he dies. Regardless of what you think of his politics, of the man himself, he has a missus and a son on the way. What the fuck sort of human can feel okay with themselves to say they hope he dies or laugh at the fact he has been admitted to an ICU? Quite frankly, it's absolutely disgraceful. Imagine how his missus must be feeling right now? His family, government, friends. Now imagine saying to one of them disgusting Twitter lot 'HAHAHA' or 'Hope they die' if their mother or father was in the situation? They'd be in absolute uproar. Fuck the internet. Get well soon Boris. I've been absolutely disgusted by some of the antics on social media recently (not just this virus). For some reason all common decency seems to go out of the window when certain people are sat behind a keyboard. Social media though is a parallel universe that attracts nutters and attention seekers who struggle to make any meaningful impact in real life. Whilst they take up far too much of cyberspace I like to think they're insignificant in normal society. Sadly however, reasonable discussion online invariably gets drowned out shouted down or taken over by them.

One of my wife's friends has come out of Leighton after being ill for 10 days before worsening and getting rushed in, seems a similar path to Boris's, let's hope he pulls through He/she was in Leighton for 10 days with covid and then was released having been given the all clear but then became ill again and has been rushed back into hospital? Is that right? No, had the symptoms for 10 days similar to Boris and other people (like me) but then got worse. Seems to be a bit of a trend if you have it more than just mild, about 10 days then it either starts to go or then has a real go at you.

Gear up for six months, expect twelve and treat anything less as a bonus. That's what I'm doing. The Imperial Suppression strategy suggests 18 months worth of measures or however long it takes to get a vaccine/long term management strategy. Importantly that is NOT 18 months of continuous lockdown, it’s an initial lockdown for maximum a few months followed by a scaling back of measures but maintenance of social distancing where possible and in certain scenarios. Then in the event of a an outbreak of detection of cases, we adopt a South Korea like system to try and contain local outbreaks before they reach the level required for a nationwide lockdown again. So intensive testing, contact tracing and all that stuff. The exit strategy is pretty clear if they follow those suggestions, endure and ensure the spike is over and then be hyper vigilant until a vaccine is developed. The exit strategy is the vaccine, there is no other way. ESOF. Previous respiratory pandemics such as Spanish Flu (1920's) or 'Hong Kong Flu' (1960's) which were particularly virulent and lethal appeared to blow themselves out after a period of time. Why would Covid 19 not do the same over a period of say 2-3 years?

The government’s advice was off for weeks and ultimately the bloke that took that could pay the ultimate price for it.

estrangedsonoffaye - is there any evidence to suggest the warmer weather may slow the spread of the virus at all, or is it "business as usual"? Also, can you shed any light (in layman's terms) on why this virus (or viruses in general) have different impacts on people? How can some have mild symptoms, others be asymptomatic and some so badly affected it actually kills them? Makes no sense to me. Why does it attack some more than others? Is it just a lottery?

Three weeks of confinement completed, now onto the fourth at least i'm getting better at scrabble in French One of my lads is almost at week 3 of full lockdown in Mauritius, think they run to the 16th April, he was saying last week not even the shops were open and the police had those whip stick things like in India, gave you a thrashing if found outside your property without the proper authority. Must be hard all that sea and beaches tantalisingly close and not being able to get to it

Author was suggesting this was something to do with the immune system. In the first week the immune system operates normally and sees if it can deal with virus (which statistically so far, in most cases it can). If after that period it fails to do so it goes into overdrive which sets up a battle royal in your body with the overactive immune system starting to do more harm than good. The message seemed to be that even if you only have mild symptoms if they go i to the second week you should be seeking help.

Fortunately then mine started to tail off after 10 days, it will be 3 weeks on Thursday for me, although not fully clear yet, waking up with headache only slight now and hardly a cough, but a little wheezy still now and then, more like clearing out a cold, regular salt water spray up the nostrils to try and unblock the sinuses and ease the earache

Neti Pot. You can order them from Amazon for about a tenner complete with the salt doses. Had symptoms very similar to Northy's last November and invested in one to clear crap out of my sinuses and throat. Though one would have to assume that was normal seasonal cold/flu.

But all big events banned (festivals etc) banned till the 31st August. Bit odd. Following the Swedish model now. Festivals etc banned here til 31st Dec. ALL schools still open. One main reason: otherwise the robbery and murder stats would rise, cause the suburban youths have nothong else to do then. Said on National tv, prime time. Leaving aside your comments about the shortage of thongs in Sweden, is your society truly that lawless that the "youths" have nothing better to do than rob or murder people? That is certainly not the image that we are sold here of a place like Sweden.

From a self confessed Marxist who believes that the Communist Regime of the PRC have no responsibility for this global pandemic that started in China three scenarios:
a) Started by a bloke eating illegal meat obtained from a "wet market" these exist all across China daily where illegal meat is readily available for purchase openly on show but ignored by the authorities b) Released by mistake from a laboratory in Wuhan due to criminally poor security, safety measures or procedures. c) Released deliberately
All three totally avoidable if properly policed by the people in charge.
I take it you approve of the Communist happy clapping oppressive regime that is "ruling" North Korea.
I see Mr Vanilla is purging the Labour Party of the trots, commies and Marxist comrades and turning your Party Tory lite, are you happy with that ?
Excellent field report Batfinder General. You are right - the communist authorities have simply not been authoritarian enough: 1 All "wet markets" (or butchers as they are wholesomely called in good old blighty) should be shut down immediately and the entire Chinese population forced into veganism. 2 All privately run security teams should be replaced by government troops shrunk to the size of a virus and given express instructions to shoot to kill any virus particle looking to sneak out a lab, 3 Deliberate release by the evil commies. Moulder and Skully are all over this one. Step down - focus your skills on what you do best -drowning innocent bats. We're proud of your work here at HQ in Barking and when this is all over you will earn those three little bat skulls for your lapel. Be patient the Reich will rise again. In the meantime you'll be glad to here that those wicked Chinese respirators heading for New York have been requisitioned and re-purposed as dunking stools for bats. Expect receipt shortly. Keep up the good work. Over and Out.

No, Only in Tabac shops which double up as newsagents most of the time. Some bars used to sell from under the counter but now they are all closed. One man tried to cross the Pyrenees on foot the other day to buy his cigarettes in Spain, but he got lost and then needed an helicopter to rescue him !
