Don't question the actions of these barbarian's or you will be labelled a racist. Nope, it's because you are actually a small minded little bigot you get called a racist who is just clever enough to know how to skirt around it so they don't get banned. You spiteful racist.Ha ha took you at least 3 edits to get that out, I like the bold bit at the end the most, really powerful stuff.

I do have to say, but Rishi Sunak is a pleasant surprise. An excellent speaker and clear communicator. He speaks with a confidence that I don't see in Boris. But away from the politics now...
I am relieved and happy with the wages contingency being put in place by HMRC. Knowing they will pay up to 80% of the wages of a staff member means (hopefully) I won't travelling fast down the no money tree. And your employer can even do a top up on top of the HMRC wage being paid. This will be incredibly helpful not only to my current employer, but my future one I move to.
We need to pull together more than ever, everyone. Stay safe, and best wishes to everyone on the oatie.

Can somebody explain the 80% of wages thing to me?
Does that mean if we go into lockdown, and my Company can no longer operate, I'll still get 80% of my wages?
For how long?

Us lot on here should be directing some of this policy.
So finally pubs, bars, etc are being forcibly closed just as we have been demanding.
The next move is to close non-essential shops. We don’t need, DIY or new clothes or electronic goods, etc.
And we also need the 20,000 troops to be managing supermarkets for a few days as the police are already overloaded with other issues.

Keep more people employed and reduce the concentrations of people in Asda, Tesco etc. That said I wouldn't mind some paint - was going to do a bit of decorating to pass the time during lockdown.

Pubs, clubs and restaurants shutting tonight. I hope you've got plenty of booze in cos that's the next thing you won't be able to buy in the shops. Be like the prohibition era, we may see the return of the Speakeasy !

It is a massive financial statement and it’s much needed for the poor sods who’ve already lost their jobs and have a chance to back date wages and possibly get re-employed but I am a sole trader (joiner, kitchen fitter) if there is a possible future lock down I’m stuffed along with the other 4 million self employed freelancers and tradesmen who at best will just get SSP now! We’ve been completely forgotten in that statement I’m afraid.

We don’t need, DIY or new clothes I work for a DIY retailer and I'm also down to my last serviceable pair of undercrackers. Sounds like you not only want me to become unemployed but also want to see me having to poke my legs through one of those big McDonald's bags so as to fashion some rudimentary pants and wear them whilst I'm sucking off truckers for pennies in order to survive.

I think it relies on your employer guaranteeing you will be retained after this concludes and are kept on their payroll. I assume they have to pay the 20% to top it up but I'm not certain of that.

It is going to help so many people who are on the verge of losing their job or have just lost theirs, and the backdate is to March 1 as well, bumper initial payment. Sorry to hear about that mate. Hopefully we don't go full lockdown, but you've got my best wishes mate regardless what happens. Like I said, we all have to pull together. Hopefully they can announce some new measures for the self employed.

Austin suspects that he may have picked up the virus when he was at the Cheltenham Festival last week Still didn't require hospital treatment though? I accept he says it's bad, but clearly not critical or bad enough to warrant hospital care. It's a dangerous way of thinking... It's not only the old and vulnerable anymore. As stated yesterday, 50% of those critical in Italy, approx 1500 people are under 65 and I saw a stat today that 30% have no underlying condition as they call it.

I'm probably just trying to convince myself I'll be ok if I catch it. Dont get me wrong, I'm taking it seriously. We've isolated all week in our house. I've worked from home. No contact with family or friends. Plenty of hand washing. We're taking it very seriously.

They said the announcement for the self employed would be included in the statement today but all they have done is move us from nothing to SSP. There is a delay on paying our self assessment which will help slightly but it is a kick in the teeth when you work hard to build your business and contribute by paying your taxes and NI and then told you’ll get £90 a week if the shit hits the fan. I can still work at the mo and me and mine have our health so the glass is still half full. COYMP!😀

I think what people are failing to understand is it not age what determines if you get it or not or how ill you are. It the fact that with the damage it does it’s more acute in older people due to weakened immune systems and therefore less survivable. Anyone any age can get pneumonia you physicality and underlying heath can determine if you recover. Hold your holding on there Milanstokie and your family is well, as always to stokies and to all now stick together look after your family follow the best advice don’t believe everything on the internet and VIS UNITA FORTIOR

Nothing in it for me financially but so what. Pubs closed I will save a fortune.
At least I won’t have a tax bill at the end of this year. May qualify for a tax rebate but at this rate they may have no money left.!
Good luck everybody.

I'll be honest, we have a feeling that the walls are closing in, feels like it's only a matter of time... Extremely odd feeling.
I have an autoimmune disease that has an issue with vasculitis and directly affects the lungs so I am very worried all the time. Personally I've not left my property now since I packed my stuff up to work from home 11 days ago. My partner shops and I stay at home with the kids.
I'm now worried for my parents who own their own small business in Fenton and can't yet afford to shut up shop. I need them to close the doors and go home... They are 70.
Hanging in as best we can.

For the moment it feels like living in an end-of-the-world novel, but it won't always be that way.

The restrictions in Italy have been severe for a longer time so you would expect to be getting an improvement fairly soon.
