Isn't he 4 months younger than Tymon? Seems we have a habit of deciding an entire career when a player is only 22.
They've both had issues but were here at the most toxic time in the club's history. How about we encourage young players with some patience rather than write them off.
I just about remember what a cock I was at 20-21 and I wasn't in pro football.

Edwards looked good at times for us and he played for England at U20 level so the potential is there, it seems the main question around him was his attitude? if he has matured after a year in NYC perhaps MON will be willing to give him a chance and he can right for a place at RWB, there is still plenty of time for him to be a success here if he wants it enough.

I was thinking about him the other day. We badly need a right wing back as competition or backup for Smith and you have to feel that, given the other options seemingly available, he at least merits another look to save us spending a fee. If Josh Tymon can rejuvenate his career then anybody can.
That said, I've no idea how he's done playing in the US. I also fear that he's burnt his bridges here. O'Neill has the ruthless streak that all good managers need.

I think we know from what have seen of him already that there is defiantly a good player in there, lets hope he has changed his ways and proves to MON that he now ready to knuckle down and push on but a few on here reckon that ship has sailed so who knows.

Having watched almost every minute heβs played for Red Bulls Iβd say he is not likely to feature for us again. But, I do think he has a future in MLS, most likely as a centre back.

We are short at RB/RWB and O'Neill has said it's one of our remaining priorities. O'Neill is putting together a young squad with an eye to the future. If Edwards is part of that future he would be training with the squad. He isn't and we are actively looking for cover in his position. Unless he rocks up before the end of August he's as good as gone.

Wasn't his problem attitude? In which case he can stay there as far as I'm concerned.
I'm sick to fuck of the wasters in this club and I love the harmony we're finally enjoying in the side at the moment.

I was thinking about this the other day. Will he come back more as an option for right side of the three? Thatβs seemingly what heβs playing most of over there.

Heβs been getting minutes at CB instead of RB, or RWB. He has done ok but not stellar, seems to be solid for 70+ minutes then makes a mistake. I think he is good enough for league 1 / MLS but if he were good enough for top half of the championship he should stand out in an MLS squad where he is one of the most senior pros.

By agreeing to this loan deal Edwards isn't even third choice let alone knocking on the door to the first team. The only reason that makes sense to me is that he isn't part of the plans for the future - it's a loan designed to see him out the door.

Given how far Josh Tynan's prospects had fallen, all things are possible. The difference is that Tymon fell because of a lack of confidence and managers who weren't prepared to give him the arm around the shoulder he needed whereas Edwards managed to blot his copy book with MON several times in his first few weeks at the club. Whatever went on in training I have no idea as it's all speculation and hearsay but arguing with your manager from the pitch during a game does not bode well for your future. MON saw an honest decent player who was struggling in Tymon but Edwards appeared to be arrogant and unwilling to play in the way he was being asked.

Ironically with the system we're playing, the Edwards that first appeared a few years ago would thrive in this side. Unfortunately, I think that boat has sailed and Smith is doing a good job.

Why are we bringing up a succession of threads to just rinse people on an opinion from a period of time.
No one on this board would have predicted Tommy Smith to have the season heβs having.
Hopefully there is still potential with Edwards and he comes back in January to challenge And cover Smith.

In what way? His loan deal runs out at the end of the MLS season, which will be once NYRBβs are out of the play offs, or win it. This was always the deal

Had the MLS season ended in, for example, early October or in February then few English Clubs would be keen on loaning players to MLS clubs. As it is, loans end in November which allows loan players to have a short break and then resume training in December in time to compete for a place at their parent club in January once the window opens again.
