the Aztex won 4-0 last night and 2-0 on friday night they now go on to their US Open Cup game against Atlanta Silverbacks on tuesday night in front of our very own TP
Aztex Romp to 4-0 Road Victory over DFW The Aztex took the opportunity tonight to rest a few players ahead of their important U.S. Open Cup game on Tuesday evening, but still romped to a 4-0 win on the road in Dallas. Austin started the scoring in the 37th minute through Andres Cuero, but were unfortunate not to lead the Tornados by more than the one goal at the break, having had all the play in the first half.
In the second half the Aztex dominance paid dividends with Cuero adding a second goal, a blistering 25-yard strike in the 61st minute. Just three minutes later he completed his hat-trick, the first in club history. The game was well and truly wrapped up in the final few minutes when Beau Fraser made a decisive break before feeding Willy Guadarrama to slot home the Aztex’s fourth.

The amazing thing is that they haven't conceeded a goal yet. Not many clubs in history will have gone on a run of six (or seven?) games after being formed without conceeding a competitive goal. Will TP sign up the whole back 4 after Tuesday? EDIT - Oops I tell a lie - having checked the league I see they have now lost a game.

And this is only the U-23s, isn't it?
Not even the 'proper', Inchy-managed team which starts up next year?
They seem to have recruited pretty well.

forny they have actually lost a game 2-0 in the league so they have conceded a goal or 2 but since that loss they have again not conceded since.
does this mean the american leagues are shite because they have been formed this season and yet they are top of the league and beating most teams or does it show the quality of coach rawlins has brought in and the players they have signed up

I suppose the coaching must play a big part but with Austin not having had a league team before there must be a lot of young hungry players to choose from. Even though it is only U23 you'd have to hope that their success means that senior players will want to join next season.
If the senior team does REALLY well can the MLS come knocking on the door to offer Phil a franchise or is he now tied in to the USL? I bet "brief" who posts on here will know.
Be interesting to see how they perform against a senior team in the cup tomorrow.

They're doing incredibly well given the fact that a few months ago they didn't even exist. With it being the U23 team that's so successful, it's nice to know that the youth players at the club look promising, maybe we'll be seeing a few over here in a year or two.

Hopefully we'll also see some of our Academy graduates like Jimmy Phillips going over there to get experience.

It's pretty difficult to get a handle on the quality of the leagues, even so you can only think it's good for everyone they've started so well.
America produces fantastic athletes, and as Fornside says Austen is a major city with I guess a sizeable hispanic population. Whether anyone would want to swap it for a wet Tuesday against Wigan Silverbacks is another question...but well done to the club and Phil R for sorting it out.
In fact, considering how a number of us have slagged off almost every aspect of the club 'machine' over the last couple of years (and generally with good reason), I reckon Mr Scholes deserves a big pat on the back from all of us for seemingly having turned things around. (PAT smiley)

Nah we wouldn't Northwich - we have lost one and drawn (or tied as they say) one.

Fornside
As far as the MLS is concerned the clubs don't actually own the players the league does.
That's one of the reasons for going to the USL as player development is a big part of Phil's plans

Is Pulis still watching the game tonight over there?
Is he making a special trip, or was he over there anyway?
Is there any chance of anything interesting happening in the short-term re this tie-up?

Cheers Brief. I'm glad Phil has gone down that route then. It looks to be a more "competitive" set up than the MLS model. Hopefully the USL will one day usurp the MLS in terms of crowd pulling.

Tony was already going over to look at training facilities for next year and to watch them train. Pure luck they got through to the first round of the open cup and the match is to be played whilst he is there. Hopefully if they pull off a giant killing they will play Miami in the second round who Romario has played for. As far as challenging the MLS there are some really interesting developments and I think the League will become more and more competitive.
