I can remember seeing pictures of him in hospital after the crash. I can also remember us signing him in 1966 and the two games he played for us - a 4-2 loss and a 2-0 win for those who don't know.
What I can't remember is why we signed him and only played him twice. Was it because of a temporary injury to one of our regular keepers? Anyone know?
RIP Harry.

I played with Harry in reserves I think he was bought in for cover at the time. He was made captain of the reserves and as a great guy.

Great goalkeeper. Munich hero. He did an incredibly moving interview with Colin Murray a few years ago on Talksport. Don't know if it's available. RIP Harry.

I think we signed him for the away leg of the league cup final against Leicester when it was played over two legs. Our regular goalie ,whose name escapes me , was injured and we were left without an experienced replacement.

Harry Gregg climbed back into the burning plane to rescue people.
He wasn't too pleased with, what he considered to be, negligence, from Man utd regarding the survivors.

What I can't remember is why we signed him and only played him twice. Was it because of a temporary injury to one of our regular keepers? Anyone know? RIP Harry. We signed him when John Farmer was injured and presumably either Waddo didn't think reserve keeper Paul Shardlow was ready or he too was unavailable. It was after his second game in April (when Farmer was again out) that Waddo went out and signed Gordon Banks. I seem to recall him also playing a few time for the reserves before he retired at the end of that season. I suppose I remember him better as the Crewe manager in the mid/late 1970s before he went on to be assistant manager with Lou Macari at Swindon until they both resigned/were sacked and then almost straight away Lou was reappointed on his own. He always came across as an interesting talker about football, his life and his career but he might not have been the easiest bloke to work with. RIP

I heard he saved Bobby Charlton and(more importantly ) Denis Viollet's lives after the crash. "Having forced his way out of the wreckage – and ignoring a general order to run for cover to avoid a possible explosion – Gregg dived back into the burning debris to pull out a number of his fellow passengers. They included Vera Lukić, the pregnant wife of a Yugoslav diplomat, and her young daughter, Vesna – as well as the United players Albert Scanlon, Ray Wood, Jackie Blanchflower, Bobby Charlton and Dennis Viollet, the last two of whom he had to drag away, unconscious, by their trouser waistbands. All survived, although eight players were eventually among the dead." www.theguardian.com/football/2020/feb/17/harry-gregg-obituary

I remember going to the reserves and seeing him play when I was a little kid (about 7 or 8): my parents thought I was too young to go watch the first team. I never knew about his involvement in saving all those injured in the Munich air disaster. Incredible bravery. RIP

In a sports world where the word ‘hero’ is bandied about to the point that the word is meaningless....
THE real deal.
Played thirteen days later as well.

"Maybe it was my youth, maybe my nature, but I have never, not one day since the tragedy happened, lost my respect for what Harry Gregg and Bill Foukes managed to achieve in the minutes and the days and then the weeks and months that came after." Bobby Charlton "My Manchester United Years".
Not only did they go back into the plane repeatedly to pull out people including one pregnant lady, sometimes just by dragging them by their clothing, they also flew back to the UK with the bodies and attended all the funerals and tried to comfort all the bereaved.
May he rest in peace. Condolences to all his loved ones.
