boother lad
these tv companies employ phone companies to run their premium rate competion lines.
when watching a programme, at the beginning the host will adverytise the competion but the phone comapny will pick the winner out of the hat out of the first few hundred callers.
though the winner had been chosen, the tv presenters would still be plugging the competion and my fucking wife would ring in not knowing she does not stand a chance.

OFCOM is bent. It's funded by the telecoms and broadcast companies. Go look at the case in the Competition Appeals tribunal v Floe. Ofcom admits it can't (or won't) adhere to EU law, which strangely enough gives more protection to the consumer. Additionally, the recent “Dispatches” programme on Channel 4 that sharp practice, and Government collusion with mobile networks is “of itself” nothing startling – save it is wrong... What is more though that the collusion is currently known occurred and caused a 40% hike in the cost of all calls to mobiles across the whole UK? Sadly the regulator, OFCOM, has not assisted – having initially stated this was a good idea.
