With 18,000 season ticket holders and 3,000 away fans there will be something like 6/7,000 tickets available for each game
Our home game against the likes of ManU will of course be a magnet for local gloryhunters who will be certain to get a substantial share of the spare tickets
Come the game there will then be pockets of opposition fans scattered around the stadium (similar to the infamous Man City game)
If ManU then happen to win the game then the natural anti ManU feelings may boil over
This could happen with other top teams too though the above game will be highest risk?

But this scenario (of ManU fans sitting with the home fans) must happen at many grounds - is there much trouble at Blackburn, Bolton, Wigan etc?

But this scenario (of ManU fans sitting with the home fans) must happen at many grounds - is there much trouble at Blackburn, Bolton, Wigan etc? The teams you listed are not Stoke City though. Our crowds cannot be trusted in those situation, since we simply have proven time and time again that when things get heated, we run with it rather than take a step back. I should imagine there will be huge Police attendence at the majority of our home & away matches next season, especially against potential rivals.

Been thinking the same thing for a few weeks myself, Cant stand shit fans at the best of times never mind if we are playing them, Ah well it will give them something else to moan about.

Absolutely no problem with any fans sitting in the home end as long as they do not take the proverbial the way the Man City and also Sheff Utd fans have done in the past or they will be asked to leave in an orderly manner

TWM, I would imagine that if Man Ure fans are thick enough to lord it in Stoke's ends then there will be trouble, same applies for all teams at Stoke and at 90% of league grounds....

Surely Stoke will only be selling tickets in home ends to people already on the system

I can't see that any away fans will be able to get tickets to our home games next season. The demand for tickets will be huge, and there will be a lot less match tickets avalibale with 17k season tickets sold. The only problems I can see is the stewards being overpowered in the away end, or trouble outside the ground. I think Stoke should invest in some proper netting/barriers like Birmingham City have in addition to stewards.

the stewards are hardly the best though are they??
we need some proper segregation in place. that netting stuff is shit.

You have to remember that these away fans are local. I know no end who live in Leek
They will be able to get tickets in an open sale as will the 'lads' who will also target the same fixtures

But this scenario (of ManU fans sitting with the home fans) must happen at many grounds - is there much trouble at Blackburn, Bolton, Wigan etc? ManUre couldn't sell all the tickets in the away end for their game at Wigan this season. That's right, a game relatively local to Manchester where a result would see them win the title and they couldn't even sell out the poxy Wigan allocation. If we were going to win the league at Wolves, I suspect we'd sell out. When we played ManUre a few years back, when they scored there was a man somewhere behind me in the JSL who jumped up and threw his jacket off, revealing the ManUre 56336th change kit for that year, white and black and gold. He didn't last very long, I'm afraid to say.

Do Wigan still give the whole of one side of the ground to away fans like they did in the Championship? If so it must be one of the largest away allocations of any club in the Prem.

From a Wigwam site
What Is It Like For Visiting Supporters? Away fans are located in the North Stand at one end of the stadium. Up to 5,400 visiting supporters can be accommodated in this area. I was thoroughly impressed with the stadium and found the Wigan supporters to be genuinely hospitable and knowledgeable about their football. The stadium has been designed so that even a few supporters can really make some noise, which makes for a good atmosphere. My only criticism was that the ground seemed a bit short on catering facilities, which led to long queues and with no queuing system, resulting in a free for all scrum at the counter! Scott Carpenter a visiting Newcastle fan adds; 'the concourses seemed too small for the large amount of away fans attending on my visit, which led to it being rather uncomfortably crowded at half time'.
Of interest outside the ground is Robins Park, where Wigan play their reserve games and athletics meetings are held. There is quite a sizeable stand on one side of the Park, which was better than a lot that I have seen at other grounds around the country. A thoroughly pleasant day out and I would say that it is likely to be one of your better away trips this season.

The netting at stoke is crap, but the stuff at birmingham city is quite good. it's like the tough stuff you get on sunbeds.
maybe stoke could just install a metal fence like at foreign grounds, although would this meet health and safety regs?

hopefully the small pockets of away fans will not do something stupid and celebrate in the home stands, but on the other hand the world will be watching and we need to show stoke as a good place to be, any crowd trouble would only damage our chances of being taken seriously.

Shocked that they can't sell all their away allocation
Maybe that will save the day then......
Hopefully Stoke will be able to use their ticketing computer giving priority to non season ticket holders who have attended x number of games for last season or of course for the coming season
If the club say that they will give priority to people regularly buying tickets for low priority games then that will be a good sales booster

Sadly the ***** neither care nor can they read this so trouble is most likely. There was bottle throwing a few weeks back WITHOUT any away fans for God's sake! Losers.

The bottle throwing was a touch embarrassing, but then the stewarding was stupid. Ushering him back to his seat would have sufficed but if he had to be ejected, they could have marched him past the empty stand instead of two full stands of people who had been drinking.

No, there isn't. It was a real shame because the whole thing was very good natured up until that point. Perhaps the guy should have just stayed off the pitch in the first place.

I think that the stewards should act quickly in these situation, if visiting Moan U fans celebrate a goal, steward immediately get to them, and and offer them a prawn and cucumber sandwich with the crusts cut off and a chilled glass of champagne, and possibly waft them with their match programmes on warm days. This will ensure that Stoke will be seen as the global seat of peace and learning, and a possible next site for the reconstituted Great Library of Alexandria.

In 2008 fans of opposing teams should be able to sit together and enjoy a game of football anyway.
It's just shows you how slowly we are evolving as a species.
Perhaps the club should plant pretend away supporters in the home stands to lure out the dickheads who want to fight.
If a Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal etc fan wanted to sit next to me to watch their team play my team, I would have no problems with that whatsoever, I mean, why would I?
