1917 rightly deserves a thread of its own - but it’s just one of a whole bunch of cracking films out just now...
The Gentlemen, Guy Richie’s new gangster movie, is brilliant
Just Mercy, the film about a miscarriage of justice in Alabama, is amazing.
I’ve still to see JoJo Rabbit which looks great, as does Bombshell.
Anyone else enjoying the cinema just now?

The Gentlemen definitely. Looks good judging just by the trailers. Everything takes a while get to the Magic Lantern here in Tywyn. 1917 hasn't turned up yet.

Feels like the year sometimes, we've got a Coop. 🤔 They had one in Littleport when we moved there, then a coach garage thing closed down and rumours abounded of another supermarket opening, we were quite excited, then we found out it was another bloody coop, just bigger And they still kept the old one, a few hundred yards away open, unbelievable Jeff

Saw quite a few over the holidays:
1917 - excellent, wish I'd waited to see it in a better movie theater. Richard Jewell - good, wait for the video Little Women - even the ladies who came with us though it was meh - don't bother unless you're in trouble with the wife and she insists Uncut Gems - I sat through it but didn't really enjoy it Knives Out - very good, although DC's accent was off putting for me
Looking forward to see the Gentlemen

I think it’s the worst year for awards films in ages. Knives Out and Little Women are excellent. Jojo Rabbit was painfully unfunny for me.
The foreign language films are class if you get to see them.

And yet another cracking film - Parasite
I had very low expectations for this. I thought it would be some arty farty shite. But it was astonishingly good.

I haven't been a big fan of recent highly-rated war films (like Dunkirk) but 1917 was excellent. There are a load of films I'm looking forward to seeing at the cinema. I wonder if film has stepped up a level thanks to what's seemed like a golden era of TV? I'm catching up on highly-rated 2010s films I missed. I thought the one-take of Victoria (a crime/thriller) was a gimmick when it was released and that was why critics were praising it. I was so wrong! Apart from 15ish minutes that dragged in the first hour, Victoria was excellent, with the last hour one of the most compelling I've seen. The one-take right-in-the-action filming made me feel I was part of it. My top 4 of the 2010s unless anything else beats 'em: Song of the Sea, Three Billboards, Leave No Trace and Toy Story 3. And yet another cracking film - Parasite I had very low expectations for this. I thought it would be some arty farty shite. But it was astonishingly good. I should be seeing that next week. South Korea has some great films. 3-Iron is my favourite. The Handmaiden was excellent too. I never thought a tooth-filing scene could be erotic...

Been a quiet couple of weeks for good films but it seems there are now a few goodies out...
Went to see the Invisible Man this evening- I hadn’t seen a trailer so wasn’t sure what to expect, well other than an Invisible Man of course. But the film is superb. Very, very scary! Well worth a trip to the flix to see.

I think it's been a pretty awful decade for films. I totally ignore The Oscars as is a case of content over quality and has been for a while and so many films that have been built us as epics like say Dunkirk have just turned out to be dreary and totally lacking in just about every department. Personally thought The Gentleman was ordinary
