I haven't read anything about this lately BJ but there was a story on GMB a couple of weeks back that said subpostmasters are still being prosecuted for what they termed "accounting anomalies" in Horizon. One subpostmaster who had been prosecuted was interviewed and was adamant it was purely due to Horizon. Nobody from the Post Office was available for comment.

Utterly shocking but not in the least bit surprising! 😡 I for one have every confidence that when Kemi says every effort is being made to speed up the compensation process, I can rely on her on her previous record of truthfulness And err .... the Cheque's in the Post

Does anyone know if there is any movement whatsoever to prosecute anyone?
Separate from the issue of compensation.

There have to be prison sentences involved here. Only way any semblance of justice has been served is with reciprocal prison terms for the main instigators.. Edit, forgot to say, that poor woman in the article, pregnant and sent to prison for a false accusation by the post office of fraud. I can't comprehend how that makes someone feel. I get apoplectic when falsely accused of breaking wind...

Good , she needs to do some bird so she can think what's she's done , probably won't happen though Nevermind 'some', it needs to be the maximum sentence allowable for the offences with no opportunity for parole given the aggravated nature of them. None of it was by mistake, it's as deliberate and malicious as you can get.

When is Vennells due to be questioned at the inquiry ?
I don't know how this works but are the police obliged to wait until the inquiry is complete before taking any action ? Will they take any action ? Maybe they're "investigating" and "gathering evidence". Or maybe it's just delaying tactics.

The inquiry is split in to seven fazes, with faze five tipped to be the one likely to be the most explosive, as it sees the key Post Office lawyers and executives all giving evidence.
It begins next Tuesday 9th April (week 1) with Alan Bates giving evidence but the big two weeks are weeks 3 (23-26 April), when Susan Crichton (General Counsel for the PO and heard in the tapes linked above attempting to cancel MP's inquiries), Chris Aujard (another former General Counsel for the PO) and Angela van den Bogerd (heavily featured in the ITV drama) all giving evidence and week 7, when Paula Vennells gives evidence on 22/23/24th May.
The police are not obliged to wait until the inquiry is completed (which wont be for several years), at the moment, there isn't any sign that they are investigating or gathering evidence, as no official police inquiry has been opened.

According to this article www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-68691257 the Met Police have been conducting an enquiry since 2020. To be fair up until now there hasn't been definitive evidence of a cover up and the Post Office lawyers have consistently denied any wrong doing. On the face of it the audio tapes blow the whole thing wide open so now the police might act. However with the key players now due to testify at the public enquiry they might wait until this goes on record before charging anyone

That's a very odd story isn't it?
It begins by saying "Former sub-postmasters and politicians have called for the Post Office to face a police investigation after BBC News revealed the company knew of flaws in its Horizon IT system."
But then goes on to say, that a Police inquiry has actually been on going since Jan 2020, however, in that time only two people have actually been interviewed! What sort of police investigation takes four years to interview just two individuals?

A crap one? We are talking about the Met. Maybe the police are being advised by the CPS as to when to prosecute so as to maximise the chance of a conviction and not do something the defence might use to overturn a prosecution on a technicality?

Beeb breakfast could be interesting this morning, being broadcast from the village hall where Bates had the initial meetings. PO officials and victims in attendance.

So the then head of the Post Office didn't know how the company he was running actually worked. So basically it wasn't my fault, I was just fucking useless at my job. It will be interesting to see how many other people being paid millions will try to wheedle out of their responsibility by claiming incompetence. BBC News - Post Office Inquiry live: I didn't realise Post Office brought its own prosecutions, says Alan Cook - BBC News www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-68795663
