They aren't direct rivals. They’re 16 points above us and in the running for play offs. If they don’t do that they’re still in the same division. How are they not rivals who have a player of ours that could in effect, benefit them and be to our detriment? We're living in the here and now. We need wages off the books now. They aren't direct rivals now - the 5 clubs around us are and hopefully Derby and Birmingham will be pulled into it with FFP points deductions. At the moment I couldn't give a crap about next season as long as we survive.

Millwall’s right side better be good now they’ve signed Woods. Indeed - their right fullback better be comfortable in possession as he is going to be getting a lot of 10 yd passes coming his way!

A player loaned out is still an asset..... Yes but surely he must still be “depreciated” on an annual basis (over contractual term) therefore you’re only kicking the problem down the road? You’re saving thousands of pounds in wages though, so whilst his value depreciates the overall cost of his contract goes down also....

Not forgetting he got a big pay rise for his excellent performance. He hasn't been good doing the job Stoke supporters and/or Oatcake contrinutors want him to do. He has been very good doing the job the Stoke board and owners wanted him to do. That's why he got a pay rise, and will probably get another next time around. And the owners are getting exactly what they deserve for their idiocy.

Woods certainly is polarising. It will be interesting to see how he does elsewhere - because he arrived to a flurry of opposing fans saying what a player he was, and departs with the same thing. In between, pretty much 18 months of nothing.

What he is is a momentum killer, he gets the ball, takes an extra touch or delays for a second rather than spread the play with real positive intent. And I’m still waiting to see a forward pass from him......

I feel he is a "confidence player". When is feeling confident he can play well with the ball. His first game for us under Rowett was excellent.
But: 1. When his confidence is gone, he is poor, and
2. he is very weak at defending.

I think he's one of those players who looks good in a team doing well. He's a tidy passer and plays well with confidence. If he's got a well functioning midfield around him where he knows where his team mates will be and trusts in their capabilities then his uncomplicated, tidy passing will link things up very well.
However when the onus is on him to make things happen and the unit around him isn't functioning very well then he struggles because he hasn't got much in his locker in terms of influencing the game. And defensively he's very weak and gets knocked off the ball too easily which means he struggles if you play him deep and try to get him to build things from the back. He's too easily overrun.

And I’m still waiting to see a forward pass from him...... I actually think he played some good passes be Brentford in the cup game out to the wings. He just doesn’t suit our system. He seems decent next to Clucas, but a midfield 3 with both Allen and Woods doesn’t work. In an ideal world for him, we would have an in form Powell and Campbell in the central striker role making runs off the last man. But we don’t and therefore I’m glad that he is not in competition for a spot here until the summer.

Don't think I've ever seen him make a forward pass. When you have him and Allen on the pitch together you might as well not even have any forwards out there.
he's toss

And I’m still waiting to see a forward pass from him...... This is the frustrating thing for me, at Brentford he was a CDM that won the ball or received the ball and moved it quickly. He stood out and when we signed him I honestly thought he'd be a massive signing. He's turned to shit at Stoke and I've said in a previous post he is my personal biggest disappointment as a signing because I'm sure he will do well somewhere else.

There's a good player in there.
When he's dropped and comes back he plays like a man possessed for 2 or 3 games then goes crap again.
I really can't work him out at all.

Had one of the best debuts I've ever seen at Sheff Wednesday. Genuinely thought we had a great player on our hands. Never really fulfilled that promise.

The whole team has to be set up to accommodate him, and we've been nowhere near that style since he arrived. I can't see him working at Millwall either if I'm honest.

Probably a great player if you build the midfield around him, we'd be fucking daft to do that however. Notice Brentford have never come back in for him, they replaced him easily enough.

His strengths are very strong and his weaknesses are very weak. If you look only at his strengths he’s a lovely footballer. Unfortunately the weaknesses just about always cancel out the strengths in the end, which is why he takes a lot of accommodating. It’s a shame.

To me, he's an average footballer at best!!!

He's one of those players who is far from a hopeless footballer but whose strengths/weaknesses don't suit him for any position that exists in modern football. We have a few of those.
