There is a ladder on a boat that has 14 rungs. These rungs are 40cm apart and each rung is 3cm thick. When the tide is low 4 rungs of the ladder are covered, when the tide rises, it rises a total of 174cm. If as said 4 rungs are covered when the tide is low. How many rungs on the ladder are covered when the tide is high?
the first person with the correct answer will be karmarised!

wouldn't it depend how much extra was covered towards the 5th rung? i.e. whether the 4th rung was just about covered perfectly at low tide or weather it was just below the 5th but still only covering 4?

The 4th rung is competely covered, but only just, so the complete 40cm between the 4th and 5th rungs is not under water.

How many rungs on the ladder do you think are covered all together - in total?

is the answer still 4? as the boat is floating on top of the water? Surely any rise in the tide would raise the boat too and still only keep 4 under water for whatever reason
