The workers of McDonalds are going on strike today. As much as I dislike McDonalds I wish the workers well in their fight for and end to poverty pay, insecure hours and a lack of basic respect.

Good on them, total madness and quite obscene that they sack the boss for breaking there own rules and "reward" him with stock awards worth £29 million along with a severance payment of £505,000. Whilst they continually treat there hard working staff with total contempt.

I'm not saying £15 per hour is right but you have to start negotiations somewhere.
It's the staff whose hard work is contributing to the mind boggling money that McDonalds generate, so why treat them like shit?

Not sure why you reckon the staff have to be treated like shit otherwise it leads to job cuts and full automation.

McDonalds should be praised, not punished and derided, they've provided thousands of jobs for people worldwide and made eating out affordable for the less well off.

demanding £15 an hour isn't going to garner much sympathy from the general public, many people do skilled work and don't get paid that much!

Some would say there's a skill in what they do as they've contributed to a company generating billions of pounds, year in year out. Hard work in my mind is a skill in itself. And like I've previously said £15 is too much but it's a start of negotiations, you don't start at what you want otherwise the other side take the piss. A little like taking "no deal" of the table in Brexit talks and see how well that turned out.

Who say's Maccy D's treat their staff like shit? Or, is this just a knee jerk lefty response to fast food workers? It's relatively low pay because it's relatively low-tech. If people don't like the business set-up don't go to McDonalds? Consumer pressure and market competition will decide business success. My daughter worked at Starbucks, they guaranteed minimum hours and she always worked as many as she wanted. She piled in the hours then went on a girls holiday in Greece thanks to zero-hours obligations. They also paid her the over 21's minimum wage when she was 17 because they accepted all workers were doing the same work regardless of age. A friends daughter loved maccy D's zero hours because she could do as little or a much as she wanted when she was on uni holidays. The company said that about 80% of workers in the trial chose to remain on flexible contracts and it has seen an increase in levels of employee and customer satisfaction after the offer. Corbyn's demanding £15 an hour or £31,000 a year for flipping burgers. I'll leave this here..... Attachment Deleted

Imagine what Starbucks could pay their staff if they paid their fair share of tax..... He's supporting their claim for £15. He's not saying.... whooah that's a bit steep lads. He's retweeting the £15 figure. Read the article from the Guardian, the vast majority of flexible hours workers were happy with their contracts. 72% of those on zero-hour contracts do not want more hours At max there are approximately 5% of the workforce on zero or flexible contracts. So how many want more hours? 1.5%?? 2%?? The way Labour bang on about zero hour contracts you'd think every other worker is on one, not 1 in 40 and the vast majority are happy with that. Multi-national tax payments are a great conversation but nothing to do with zero hours, working conditions or salaries for fast food workers.

But thousands of people love them
Banning them is stupid

Not actually what he's saying though is it? He, like many others I assume, believe people in more skilled professions should be getting paid more than flipping burgers. Sure, a pay rise and better working conditions, but not £15 an hour.

It doesn't seem to me like he feels nurses should definitely be paid more either, just that the 'burger flippers' as he no doubt calls them should earn less.
