It shows how badly this club has been managed, neither wanted to leave our club but manager said they were not needed? I personally think they would have been a major difference in where we are in the league, both are in the team, squad, for Burnley, instead we are left with Tom fu****g Edwards, who is shite, and Stephen Ward.

I agree about Ekkers, a bit of a strange one that. Edwards is 20 years old, and has the building blocks to improve (pace, crossing ability, and confidence to take on his man). I also think he shown improvements yesterday in his defensive duties, although their first goal was a bit suspect (I still can't make out if it was Edwards or Baath who made the mistake?). Either way, referring to any of our players as "shite" isn't really helpful. Especially as they were both part of the first four goal win in 150 odd games.

Bardsley and Pieters wouldn’t have made us any better under Jones because the whole squad was being mismanaged. Formation, tactics, in game management, possibly also training methods were all - on the whole - wrong.

All about opinions and I think Tom Edwards is league Two standard at best, slow, no defensive qualities, no final ball, generally poor all around, give me Bardsley any day.

Like with Whelan, the mistake wasn't getting rid, it was who we replaced them with (or didn't).

Watched the Burnley highlights and wondered how two 'poor full backs' still continue to play for a premier league team - cant understand losing either The Stoke DNA started to slip when Bards was allowed to leave - I will always hold him in esteem for cold cocking Rooney 😁

Bardsley played his first League game of the season for Burnley yesterday and Pieters was dropped. Pieters was hooked at half time last week, after being at fault for two of Sheffield United's goals.

Bardsley played his first League game of the season for Burnley yesterday and Pieters was dropped. They’re still both decent PL full backs though. I think it’s reasonable to ask why we got rid of both when we did. Neither decision made sense at the time or now.

I've just always assumed it was to save on wages, as I'm guessing they were big earner. Which for me would be totally fine if we hadn't then spunked away said wages on a bunch of useless clowns. It's turned into a false economy.

Have to disagree with you , Edwards still learning and Bardsley was a liability, have a look at how many times he cost us, crosses came in and he would face away from it. Pieters would be welcome back tomorrow to replace ward

Just out of interest do we know for a fact that neither wanted to leave. My understanding was that certainly Ekker was being a bit of a cock and agitating for a move, which was why he was frozen out and eventually sold. I may have got that all wrong and if so I'm sorry because I did used to quite like old Ekker.

It's turned into a false economy. Maybe but with Bardsley, it was him or Johnson and Johnson had been awful and was also on a similar sort of wage if not bigger you would imagine. It never made any sense to keep him over Bardsley. Letting Pieters go was just a massive fuck up. I don’t care if he shagging Mrs Coates nevermind park in the old fellas space. He was the best left back we had and not having a left back has played a big role in where we are now. Both just odd.

Think Bardsley is quite highly regarded amongst the Clarets faithful but after a good start for them, don't think Erik is held in the same regard.
One thing about Dyche is he does seem to get the absolute best out of average players. It would explain why Vokes and Ward have been decidedly average for us after playing major roles for them in recent years. Can't imagine Ashley Barnes or Chris wood looking as effective in any other PL team than Burnley

Burnley and Stoke have a collection of poor fullbacks between them.
Edwards has been erratic this season but has shown enough in his career that at 20 he is well worth persevering with.
