'2001' remains my favourite film of all time, never mind films by Kubrick alone. I was lucky enough to be in Frankfurt in May and they had a travelling exhibition at the Film Museum on the making of 2001, including props like Bowman's space suit, one of the wax models of the Star Child, the seats from the lunar base that Leonard Rossiter sat on etc etc. Also lots of original artwork, which showed some of the concept designs for the aliens that were originally supposed to appear at the end before they ran short of cash and Kubrick decided to go with the Bowman getting older scenes.
I don't know if the Kubrick exhibition is still on in London, but that has material from all of his films, and well worth a visit.

I think what makes him stand out is that he has made a groundbreaking film in almost every genre. As well as just being a bloody good director.

Dr Strangelove. Probably my favourite film of all time. Peter Sellers in his prime. Totally agree. Dr Strangelove has to be a candidate for the greatest achievement in the history of cinema. As for Peter Sellers, he was always in his prime if you think about it.

A clockwork orange one of my all time favourite films , fantastic soundtrack as well The film got nominated for a BAFTA for best sound (not soundtrack).. the guy responsible for that was John Jordan, who worked at Staffs Uni and ran the Film Theatre as a volunteer for years in the 80s and 90s.

FYI this BBC Kubrick documentary was made in 2001. Almost 20 years old but still brilliant.
