Fucking amateurs they didn’t have the co-op funeral band , if only they had a proper chief executive they could have organised a proper party like we did as a top ten premiership team and in the top 30 in the world financially .we really showed the world how to do it , now that was ambition

What the heck is that gold statue? It looks like Mighty Mouse standing at attention and some Leeds yob has nicked its face.

Funny old club. Leeds is traditionally a rugby city but their spectacular success in the 60 and 70s when TV was really taking a grip of football meant they pulled in support from all over the county, then the country and then the world. And to be fair it’s proved to be fairly loyal in its commitment. I’m of an age where some of my school friends became Leeds fans despite being deep in Manc/Merseyside territory and the ones I still know are still carrying the burden to this day !

There was some Leeds gimp giving it the big I am on our YouTube channel after the 0-3 game. Basically trashing us for empty seats. Now, being 30, I’ve grown up with a perception of Leeds as a massive club. So I did some research and in reality they’re not even in the old Man City / Sunderland bracket if you go off historical attendances. Also their crowds tanked horrendously when they were getting relegated from this division. When you consider the size of Leeds and that it’s a one-club city too, then in reality the city of Leeds does a fairly shoddy job of supporting their club. It’s easy to crow in times of plenty. It also makes the success LUFC have enjoyed seem fairly outrageous when you compare it to how little the likes of Newcastle, Sunderland, pre-oil Man City etc. Even us ffs. I know it goes without saying that we’re one of the great under-achievers in English football, but if those charlatans at LUFC are worth multiple honours then it’s very sad that we have just a league cup and a few windscreen wiper trophies to our name.

Not going to lie, I’ve always had Leeds down as the nearly men of English football. Look how many times they came second in the Revie era. A dominant football team no doubt, but one could make an argument for pretty consistent choking.

I'm 40 and during my life I remember as a child when they had strachan and chapman playing for them and they were good.
I also remember the Risdale years.
All in all, if they weren't such a prime example of being a thoroughly dislikeable football club they would be nothing to me, they wouldn't even be on my radar. They haven't even been a top flight club for nearly all of my adult life.
What annoys me is the old buggers on this board that always go on about them like its still the 70's and Revie is still in charge.

My pet theory for Premier League era football, is that English football can only tolerate so many dominant clubs and in a parallel universe Leeds Utd could have easily taken the place of Man Utd for trophies and vice versa. If Alex Ferguson hadn't have been such a superb operator, and had Leeds not been saddled with fools for Chairmen things could have been completely the reverse, with Yorkshire and Merseyside dominating northern England and Manchester the cool outsiders.

I’ve said it on here before with the catchment area Leeds have they are one of the worst supported clubs. North the nearest is Middlesbrough east hull south Barnsley and west apart from Bradford it’s Huddersfield and that’s a massive area. Shit club shit fans 😂

Took over from Leeds City who were founded in 1904 and folded in 1919. Leeds City thrown out of the league for financial irregularities, I believe. So they have precedent.
I worked as a temp at Leeds Utd for a while during the Ridsdale years. In the finance department. I swear their biggest item on the budget was brown envelopes. "Can I have £1000 in cash?"
"What for?" "I entertained some clients last night" "Who, and can we have your receipts?" Blank stare. "I can't say who. Receipts? What are they?" Finance manager comes in, hands over £1000 in cash. A regular occurence.

Them being cheated in the European Cup Final is one of the most absurd pieces of corruption in sporting history.

Mention the name Seth Johnson to anyone and they will almost certainly tell the same story about his contract at Leeds United. The legend goes that Johnson, earning around £5,000 a week at Derby County, went into negotiations with Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale hoping for an increase to around £13,000 a week. Ridsdale, however, offered £30,000, and then immediately upped that to £37,000 when his opening gambit was met with stunned silence. Ridsdale dismissed it as a myth back in 2007, insisting Johnson was on “at least £10,000 a week less” than had been speculated in the press, but the myth has stuck. www.planetfootball.com/in-depth/seth-johnson-interview-true-leeds-story-retirement-struggles/
