Deserves his own thread.
In my opinion Boris will win over many people. He has taken the Premiership at possibly the most difficult and challenging time for any PM since the war. A very minority government trying to deliver the most significant event for the UK since the war.... with the combined opposition of Parliament, the media , the EU and other political bodies.....and in the face of unprecedented personal attacks. Whether he really means what he says remains to be seen. But in my opinion he is playing it right. If he delivers true BREXIT on 31 October he will be a hero and will possibly have a landslide. at an election. If he doesn't he can rightly go to the country saying that he was clear and he tried but the opposition denied him. ..... and he could get a landslide for that. It has been clear that the opposition parties are offering little other than denying the will of the people. To portray him as a fool has backfired. Who would do a better job than him at present..... possibly only Farage. ( cue hysteria)

He’s a natural leader. Unlike his predecessor.
I believe he needs a decent team around him to rein him in. He is not the buffoon he’s portrayed to be.
That said he is presiding over a shit government due to
1. May’s losing seats 2. The worst parliment in my lifetime.
He can’t preside over this and needs a clear majority to even start to get a queens speech through.
His greatest asset is the unelectable as pm Corbyn.
He’s trying to sort out brexit and the purse strings have been opened.
He will get a landslide however
His major weakness is The brexit party potentially splitting the Tory vote

It's interesting that he constantly gets labelled as self serving by politicians who are the very definition of self serving.

If you actually read what I've said Bath....I think that he has put himself in a good position..... irrespective of what you think about what he's done/ doing....I don't think that there is a current politician who has put himself/ herself in a better position. Quite simply put all the names of serving politicians (including Boris) into a big hat and pull a name out and you will have someone better. 7 times a failure. Beaten by a man dressed as a dolphin. National embarrassment. He is however an expert in populism. The 'Brexit Party' rallies will re-define how election campaigns are run.

Won the referendum despite the combined efforts of the authorities. A decent man. Elected to the "important" Euro Parliament. Organised a political party ( BREXIT party) in an incredibly short period of time to hold career politicians to account. Just one man. Stuck to his principles and answers questions. It is easy to be on the side of the establishment, to conform and attack the individual.....Go on then ...who is your candidate?.... who do you think has been more effective...Boris?( as I hinted in my OP i knew it would trigger a few).

Hardly the most mature way to handle discussion really is it? P.S. when you say Farge is a man who sticks to his principles....you are aware that after the referendumhe said live on radio that if it didn't work out as he expected, then he'd simply move to another country aren't you? That's sticking to his principles is it? As you put it, he "single handedly" convinced millions to vote to leave then openly admitted that he's legging it if it goes tits up because he can afford to. What a principled man he is!!

If Nigel Farage is your idea of a decent man we are certainly a long way apart (and there is nothing wrong with that, it's the beauty of opinions and living in a free speech country) I would question if you can deep down agree with his policies and beliefs especially in the rhetoric that its delivered - just search for his past views on gender pay / breastfeeding / calais border etc... but if you do, then you do. Do I feel Boris has been more effective? They are almost a match made in heaven. Experts in populism and deception and in BoJo's case lies.

Mick, simply because when Farage is mentioned ( or admittedly other politicians) it simply triggers personal stuff rather than the point of the thread...I was simply pre-empting the predictable. And it was Bath who asked/ implied I was mad, I purely answered.... what do you expect me to do? The point of my thread really was to recognise that given the unprecedented position that we are in....I cannot think of anyone who could do better.......I am not necessarily a Boris fan..... unless he delivers BREXIT.

I am not aware of the bit about him going to another country....but as Leave won the referendum it is s bit irrelevant as an argument for him not to stick to his principles. How do you think Boris is doing...in light of the tremendous challenge he faces?

What is it now played 7 and lost 7? Therefore any MP, any who have tabled a motion or vote and won, have been more effective. In terms of: Being involved with a conspiracy for a journo being assaulted or, Numerous affairs on his wife or, Being disingenuous to the queen for the proroguing of parliament or, Lying to the public just about every week. Then yes, he has been super effective.

I wouldn't want Labour in control of things, but not sure I know anyone who tells more lies than Boris. Its almost a lie everyday from him at the moment.
The slogan on the Brexit bus was the first lie.
If he told the truth I think a lot more people would back him. Farage is a complete cock, and Corbyn...well lets just leave it there..
Boris has the chance of being a good leader, but with a minus 44 majority and a 100% failure in the commons so far its not going to be easy.

Now, a better job is interesting as I would currently class myself as politically homeless so don't necessarily have a pull to a party let alone an individual MP. From a conservative perspective I would keep an eye on the career of Rory Stewart. Labour need to focus on getting back to the centre ground. Lib Dem's were getting interesting until they took their 'Revoke' stance over 'Peoples vote / 2nd Ref' But as always, I would keep an open mind until we get on the campaign trail and see what party ultimately represents me best.

If he gets the deal through parliament then he's done his job in the short term. I won't be voting for him in any election that will surely happen soon, but if he finds a way out of the current impasse then I think he'll win a majority in the election.
If he doesn't get a deal through I think he'll have to resign or ignore parliament and risk a legal trial.

Boris Johnson- dividing the UK rather than uniting it, dividing his party rather than uniting it, spending money without explaining how it will be funded at a level which would be considered fiscally crazy were it by any party other than the Tories, won't tell the nation how many kids he has (not obligatory but a measure of the man), has had questionable dealings with a businesswoman, acted unlawfully in attempting to prorogue Parliament for five weeks for a Queen's speech which was, in the end, knocked out in a few days......Of course some will consider him a hero if he delivers Brexit with something close to May's deal (which he voted against twice in his quest for the top job)and I fully expect the Tories to get a majority -personally I just think he's a complete wanker, but I guess that's perspectives for you.

Not sure ' dividing the country' can be put down to Boris. The nastiness around the issue originates from Remainers being unable to accept the result of the referendum. Who would do a better job from the current bunch. We've had one vote for Rory Stewart.
