Conceded 15 goals, more than any other team. We need 2 defensive mid - field players sitting in front of either a back 3 or 4. We need a couple of clean sheets so that the defence can build some confidence.

Let's not even talk about Smith and Lindsay either.

Hacket, I didn't see the game, but I thought Ward played left back. It's a general point I'm making, to help out our beleaguered defence. Of course, the players have to be capable of playing there!

Ryan looks a better player every week he is out. Bruno has played his career at a level above this and should be in every week. Collins is as good a bet as any of the others and will only get better and as such should be starting. Lindsey looks bereft of confidence and Batth looks like what he is - a lower Championship/ League 1 plodder. As for the full backs I haven’t a clue as I don’t even know what he is expecting them to do - certainly nothing in connection with not conceding goals from appearances so far.

The defence have been poor, but they are getting absolutely no protection from the midfield. The defence are exposed most of the time, and don't have the qualities to withstand the pressure.
Remember Whitehead and Whelan?.....the other team had to get through a brick wall before they got anywhere near our defenders.
That's what supposed to happen.

I don't think that there's one statistic you could present which wouldn't embarrass Stoke City FC right now.

The PNE goal where their boy sauntered to the edge of the area for the cut back and was found with enough time he could have probably solved Brexit summed it up perfectly. The system would be better called 'the assless chaps' formation in that there is some cover but not where it's really needed leaving our arse consistently exposed to the elements.

Whether it be football, rugby union or rugby league the foundation of a winning team is its defensive structure.
We have played 6 league games and 2 cup games and have used a back 3, back 4 and back 5.
We have used Edwards, Smith , Ward, McClean, Indi , Collins, Carter Vickers , Bath and Lindsay.
10 different players in three different systems.
And Jones expects clean sheets ?

Funny how both Whelan and Whitehead got dogs abuse on here Angry feelings about current hard times combined with misty eyed nostalgia can do funny things to peoples memories. Both players were in the side when we got drubbed on several occasions. A solid defence is part of a team ethic - not down to one position.

They seem to be spending far too much time worrying about playing out from the back and the full backs trying to get forward. I know this is fashionable now and all that but I'd prefer it if they actually stayed where they are supposed to be and defended rather than seeming to worry about how to play the ball.

Shawcross is a huge miss. In both his own right, and due to the fact he obviously carried Batth.
Lindsay just looks shite. I can't see any justification for him playing over Collins.
Batth without Ryan, he just looks lost and is getting majorly found out.
BMI should be the first-choice Centre Back (and I don't even rate him 'that' highly).
Bombing out Erik Pieters is looking more ridiculous by the game. "He doesn't suit the needs of the diamond". Utter rubbish. Neither do the other two. He'd have been better than either LB we've been landed with, and he'd also have been better than Lindsay at Centre Half.
