It will be interesting to see if both brothers go and who from their back room staff. I am assuming it’s not just Danny but the other one too.

If this appoinment works for Huddersfield though and they can drag themselves out of the rut they're in and we can't, then Coatesy is going to feel twitchier than ever over that speed dial button for you know fucking who. Could do with smashing Bristol City 9-0 or something.

Did he actually turn down Wednesday? Maybe they always preferred Monk?
I thought he initially turned down Huddersfield (who've obviously now gone back in with more cash?)
That's 3 of the top 10 gone now! (not sure how far up any list we'd compile they would have been anyway though?)
1 Hughton 315
2 Pulis 154 3 Allardyce 132 4 Moyes 130
5 QSF 76 6 Neil 70
7 Monk 52 8 Pearson 34
9 Cowley 26 10 Terry, Van Bronckhorst 18 12 Neville 13 13 Bowyer, Campbell 12
15 Karanka 9 16 Carvalhal 6 17 Adkins 5 18 Coleman 4 19 Stendel, Pardew, Cook, O'Neill, Puel 3 24 Parkinson, McInnes 2

Sadly I think that sums it up. I don't think there could have been a more depressingly boring and unimaginative top 4 had the poll been entitled "Who would you go for as the most depressingly boring and unimaginative manager ever?" Top work. This thread is sponsored by Mogadon. Music by Dinosaur Junior. A Sad Bastard Production from the Association of Registered Goat Slaughters If there is a managerial change in the next month, though, obviously there'll be no gambling with us rooted to the bottom of the Championship table with the worst 9 months of form in the division in the rear view mirror. www.twtd.co.uk/league-tables/competition:championship/daterange/fromdate:2018-Dec-25/todate:2019-Sep-09/type:home-and-away/Can you see Peter giving the green light to someone who ISN'T a 'does what it says on the tin' Brit in that scenario? It's just not going to happen, is it? And I think the poll is just a reflection of that reality The title of the poll is who YOU would you go for as the next manager - not who would Peter Coates go for as the next manager. I think you are right in that if Peter Coates takes charge of the decision we will end up with some boring British has been - and a lot of posters will be happy to return to their xenophobic unimaginative comfort blanket. Jones was a gamble - but at least it showed some bravery and imaginition. Lots of posters were delighted at the appointment but at the first signs of trouble have crapped themselves and joined forces with goat slaughters alliance and dinosaur lovers who never got over the removal of Tony Pulis. My preference is to stick with Jones - even it means relegation. It was a gamble and for me it's too early to cash in - if you are going to gamble at least have the balls to see it out. Any new manager has the same players to work with so they have the same issues as Jones in turning what we have into an effective team. If Jones does go my preference is for a foreign manager. It's no coincidence we've that we've gone downhill with a series of British managers. For one thing going British artificially restricts the gene pool you're fishing in and secondly there are far more gifted, better trained managers overseas - British managers are on the whole a bit crap compared to their overseas counterparts. You can be xenophobic and accept mediocrity or you reject xenophobia and open up your horizons. If Stoke-on-Trent nails it's mast to Project Little Britain it will get what it deserves - dull grey monotonous mediocrity.

I think the situation we find ourselves in will dictate that we're picking within certain parameters this time though. The Jones experiment will mean we go even more cautious, on the rebound- and I think that's understandable. We'll want people who've done the course and distance we're looking for to prevent short-term disaster. The time for a worthwhile gamble on something different could well have been and gone, and we've made mistakes. The profile we'll be looking for will rule out 90% of foreign managers. What calibre of overseas manager could we afford and attract? Taking over the club in 24th in the Championship with further FFP implications on the horizon, with the worst form in the division since Christmas, is not for everyone. Even people like Puel are right in the mix for the Sporting Lisbon job today. Gracia will be on double what we'd pay and will have La Liga clubs queueing up for him. Tedesco was the flash young thing briefly - before crashing and burning. And he probably wouldn't give us a second look. Would any manager doing moderately well in a decent league? For every Wagner at Huddersfield, there's a Siewert who looks lost. And anyone who looks the part with a moderate CV will have better options. www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trainer/verfuegbaretrainer/statistikNot sure how many of this lot that meet the worthwhile gamble threshold would actually be prepared to come.

The bit I find hard to swallow with Jones is all this rhetoric about your, athletic fast flowing football and we stand here with the polar opposite. I think he needs to pick his best players if fit, Powell & N,Diaye and go for it. If N'Diaye isnt in the picture, front up and say so. It's been months since the AFCO and he still hasn't figured. Nobody's sure where the F*** he actually is. Jones keeps saying he's in contention, then never figures in the 18..If he can't deliver, project or not we can't carry on in free fall for much longer..

Now we've got a top 4 (Hughton, Pulis, Allardyce, Moyes) that doesn't look likely to change... - Interesting that they are all late 50 odd and older! A craving for experience and wisdom it seems. Of those 4, would probably put Pulis as the favourite, though sense divided opinion and baggage might stop that happening. So, the other interesting - and signficantly different - question is "who do we think we will get?". Accounting for a) board sentiments - once bitten twice shy. b) We've had mixed luck at getting our first picks of late, c) We're probably a little less of a catch than 15 mths ago - and the job is less appealing with so much to sort out. The continental selection - Puel, Karanka, Di Matteo Old British hands:- Pardew, O'Neill, Adkins, Pearson, McClaran Something to prove: Sol Campbell, Chris Powell, Darren Moore, Derek McInnes The leftfield moderniser (aka "WTF is he?"):- Pablo Machin (ex Sevilla), Oscar Garcia (ex Olympiakos), Tedesco (Schalke), Sadly I think that sums it up. I don't think there could have been a more depressingly boring and unimaginative top 4 had the poll been entitled "Who would you go for as the most depressingly boring and unimaginative manager ever?" Top work. This thread is sponsored by Mogadon. Music by Dinosaur Junior. A Sad Bastard Production from the Association of Registered Goat Slaughters Dinosaur Jr? Dinosaur Jr?! You aren't relegated until you're relegated but we're already as good as three wins adrift just to get out the bottom three when you take other clubs' results into consideration. I can't see us getting one win, let alone get a consistent run of form going. It's how long you give it until you think, "Oh shit, we are in trouble." If we don't improve results and position before the tenth game, I think he'll be gone. And I think any heavy defeat or dire performance whilst we're down at the bottom end in the meantime could see him gone too. I don't blame people for believing in him but there's a point where you need to consider the future of the club and how long it will take A.N other to turn it around, should we need to go that way. If we're stuck on, say, 3 points after 10 games and are 8-10 points adrift, goodness knows where confidence is going to be within the squad and good luck to anyone coming in and turning that around. It's difficult but I don't think we can afford to be reactive, we have to be proactive and make the decision before it makes itself.

Whenever I see the line "Peter Coates would only appoint a British manager" I read that as code for "I don't want to admit I'm a bit xenophobic and so I'll blame Peter Coates for only considering British applicants - and if he does go foreign I'll go full on Little Britain on his ass".

Sacking early in search of a quick fix can have an equally bad impact. Say we sack now & make a bad appointment next one, what do you suggest? 3 managers in one calendar year? We should have more points on the board than we do atm , probably another 6. You can't legislate for the errors individual players have made, it isn't as though we have been played of the park for 6 games. If it wasn't for butland we would have won at elland road in the cup in 90 minutes. I think the problem jones has is he has a decent squad now and opposite to what people think he is trying to figure out his starting 11 from it

We have key players to come back into the team from injuries & other tournaments (powell, Eton & N'diaye). Shawcross the club captain cannot of helped matters defensively, we have never looked good for a period of time without him in the team. There is no way we are going down, the players are too good, it's a case of getting a win or 2 and the confidence boost that comes with it. Changing manager everytime you hit a bad run of form is not the answer

And yet you are obviously a big fan of Jones who is probably our most Xenophobic manager to date. He has stated he wants British only players, fucked off all the foreigners bar one (even Verlinden), his first xi includes just one foreigner, Etebo, and non of his 12 recruits were from overseas. Perhaps you should be calling for Jones to broaden his horizons, most managers at this level will look at overseas recruitment and it works if done properly

It’s the man himself who is famously risk averse for the most part. That’s why people think he’d only appoint safe, British options - because that’s what his record suggests.

Yeah , I was massively up for QSF. And would've been equally up for a punt on some up-and-coming 33yo Bundesliga II wunderkind when we went with Rowett or Jones. But do you think we could attract a foreign manager of the right quality now? Suppose it's possible in as much as Barnsley went for Stendel who did very well for them. But would the calibre we could attract this time around be complete shots in the dark? Anyone with sufficient track record in Germany, or France , or Spain to tickle our fancy as enough of a sure thing would fancy they could get a better gig at the moment. Reluctantly, I'm not sure taking a flier on one is really what's needed now and I'd be happy to get a Hughton, Moyes or Neil.

Christ on a bike! You are slating Coates and fans for Xenophobia! Perhaps you should be calling for Jones to broaden his horizons, most managers at this level will look at overseas recruitment and it works if done properly I'm not a big fan of Jones (I've said he was a risky appointment from the outset), I am concerned about his apparent British only transfer policy, I don't think Peter Coates is xenophobic but I do think a good number of posters on here are. The reason I would prefer to stick with Jones is that the disruption of yet another manager is as likely to result in us going backwards as it is forwards, the thing he has got right in his recruitment is understanding the importance of good character and I still think he could get a tune out of a pretty decent Championship quality squad. Also if you look at the that list of alternatives it's depressingly awful. I seriously would prefer relegation under Jones than be bored stupid by the as appointment of Tony Pulis or some other footballing dinosaur.

I really don’t think that’s true - I think most Stoke fans would welcome a foreign appointment if it looked like an exciting one - the prospect of QSF was broadly welcomed on here. I think we probably could - Wednesday weren’t flying when they appointed Carvalhal or whatever his name is and Reading seem to have made a reasonable appointment despite being in the doldrums of the division. There’s just no sense we have the contacts or the willingness to find one though. Given the malaise it does look like it needs and experienced hand on the wheel for a bit.

Most people have chosen British contenders on this list widely in the expectation that they’re the realistic options given who’s in charge. What’s the point of voting for the bloke in charge of Dortmund u23s when there’s no prospect of him being appointed?
