Replacing Jones with Cowley would be another massive mistake. We MUST have a manager who is used to managing at this level or equivalent at the very least. Agreed - someone capable of clear thinking and able to implement basic tactics that produce results....and able to put the fear of good in a few. Whoever it is it’s for the ‘now’ not the future. If we don’t address this immediately we will be operating at a level where Jones does have experience !

Peter Coates should be doorstepping Moyes at Deepdale tonight and asking him to name his price. Yes because the way he turned Sunderland around is exactly what we need....oh just a minute??? We look destined to be the next Sunderland/laughing stock/object lesson of a badly run club in any case but why accelerate the process???

Why on earth would you sack an out of depth lower league manager and then give the job to another lower league manager. The next manager has to be an experienced manager who has a proven track record of getting teams promoted from this division. Yeah - I'm sure that line of thinking will win the day. They'll go for what they perceive to be an older, safer pair of hands. Whether Hughton proves to be that, time will tell! Just hope his time hasn't been and gone in the same way Pulis' almost certainly has! I remember a quote from Coates a while ago where he said that Hughton was a very good manager. You'd probably be able to find it with your googling wizardry. I'd be gobsmacked if Hughton wasn't our next manager. I'm not convinced Jones is going to get the sack yet though, I think he's got another couple of defeats to go yet.

One thing I used to like with Hughes was no matter who we were playing, in the build up he would never big up the opposition. It was all about us. We are stoke and what you going do about it?
Every week all I hear now is how good and difficult our opposition are. The mighty Preston away, Birmingham. We need someone who doesn't give a fuck who we are playing and put your chest out and demand we win every game because we are stoke.

Would have to be Hughton.
Not convinced he'd come though, why would he in fairness??

We have to pick the right man for the circumstances, be it a 40 odd year old Cowley or an experienced hand. This is exactly the reason we are where we are. No plan, no direction.
The board appointed a paragmatist and gave him 50M+. They followed that up with a manager who played a very specific attacking system that needed quality players in three different positions, and brought him in at a time when the money was gone and we were spreading the money very thinly.
The two don't go and you could put up a very good argument to say they got that completely the wrong way round.
Or, pick a 'guaranteed man' when you have money!
No direction, no forward planning. Just lazily chuck money at a situation and hope it sticks.

Garry Monk feels like a compromise between what we thought we were getting with Jones, and what we would get with TP, and he's be affordable.....

Would have to be Hughton. Not convinced he'd come though, why would he in fairness?? Because he'd be offered more money than he'd get elsewhere. He'd have a squad on paper which is one of the best in the division. He's not going to get another a Premier league job is he.

The frustrating thing is Pulis should have been offered the job after the West Ham game in the year we went down - on a short contract with a huge bonus for staying up and clearing out the wrong ‘uns.
That would have offered statistically the best chance of immediate survival and would have allowed the board time to identify the next manager who wouldn’t also need to deal with the Hughes mess.
Instead we got Lambert - ironically now looking like the best of the boards decisions - and two half-baked choices appointed to achieve a promotion that could have been unnecessary. And beyond both.
The horrible reality is that other than Macari and Pulis the board has never demonstrated a talent for identifying the right manager for the job at hand. It maybe just the law of averages that they achieved that much.
Whoever it is now must be experienced, ruthless and pragmatic if we are to to survive again. Four years of catastrophic decisions leave us with no choice.

Scholes out, and a proper Director of Football type with a clear remit of the direction we want to take as a football club. If we have to appoint a pragmatist to bridge the gap to the end of the season say then so be it, but the real risk of relegation makes that all the more tricky.....

He's looking and sounding lost. He needs to go and we need an old head to steady the ship. At this moment it's all about survival.
I don't know whether Pulis, Allardyce or Moyes would take a juicy contract until the end of the season with a big bonus to keep us up. Who knows?, properly organised and the play-offs might not be out of the question as there are still 40 games to go.
Chris Hughton would be my choice for a longer contract.

We really need someone, desparately, who knows what they are doing:-
- Know the championship and can get results in it - Can tackle the challenges with a club low on morale - father figure at times, teacher at others. - Has the gravitas to handle and manage a board who are not going to do anything but hinder with their delusion and incompetence.
Apparantly, Champs managers cost 250k/year ish up to 2m. Surely to god its not only prudent but essential to get a good one. Drag one from their club if needed. We can't make up for the lousy window other than by paying for someone to organise the mess Jones left.
Shortlist - Hughton Neil Warnock Monk Carvahal Pearson

I feel like a short term, nonesense appointment is the way to go. Stabilise and reset the foundations. No point bringing in someone else on a long contract IMO right now. Need to work out what the problem is, what the players they have can do before trying to move forward in the long term.

He always used to bow to every other team we played and how it was an honour and pleasure to be on the same pitch. In the dressing room he obviously talked a different game, but publicly it used to be annoying.

I really hope the board make a knee jerk reaction like they did with Hughes didn't have a replacement lined up and ended up with the woeful Lambert. If the right bloke hasn't been found then have some patience. The season is pretty much a right off already so waiting till December isn't going to make a huge difference. A decent experienced manager will get these players performing I am sure of that. However with their non foreign policy I shudder to think who the board would appoint. Their record has been pretty shit with the last 3 appointments.
