I didn't know what his situation was, which is why I asked. I do my bit, got a 32 year old afgan (electrician) and a 30 year old Syrian (plasterer) working on jobs, supporting their families. One is renting and the other has managed to get a mortgage. Lovely hard working blokes, both have been through more than any of us can imagine. Just want to work, learn integrate and support themselves and their kids No one has a problem with taking in genuine asylum seekers, most people do have problems with illegal economic migrants coming into our country to take advantage of our healthcare systems etc. and benefits for which they have no legal entitlement, we have to clamp down on illegals both coming into the UK and the one's living here illegally by deporting them with no right to appeal, many of these people are coming from Africa why are they seeking political asylum ? How do you get benefits if you're "illegal" as you put it?

According to the House of Commons Library, migrants outside of the European Economic Area can only access social security benefits and tax credits if they have indefinite leave to remain (where they have no time limit on their right to stay in the UK).
The only other way illegal immigrants can receive financial support in the UK is if they claim asylum and become asylum seekers - but the Library says this support is less generous than social security benefits. The support also isn't given because asylum seekers fail to find jobs, as they're generally not allowed to work.

Genuine asylum seekers get caught up in political games in the west. There just needs to be an easier way for people to claim asylum before they begin travelling, it also needs to be done quickly, maybe then refugees wouldn't have to rely on villains. We're a rich country and anyone claiming asylum should be made to feel safe, not a burden.

It's also fair to point out that often the people against economic immigration are also most vocal about the foreign aid budget. Almost as if they don't like foreigners, they don't say it out loud though, fuckin pussies

These illegals are entitled to £39 per week whilst they are housed in 4 star spa hotels pending investigation with full board and lodgings which are free, of course these things are not free someone has to pay for them ie. the tax payer, again why are economic migrants coming to the UK from Africa why what are they fleeing from ?

In 2019 we gave £71m in foreign aid to wait for it .....................China the most oppressive country in the World money well spent don't you think ? No we didn’t. From The Express 23rd July 2020: China’s economy is nearly five times the size of the UK’s, at $13,368,073 to $2,824,850 respectively in 2019. MPs demanded the inquiry into the funding after the figures were discovered buried in the Department for International Development’s annual report. Some of the £71.6 million was used to help set up Chinese firms to compete with Britain’s businesses.
2.4m to assist Chinese students studying in the UK just WOW.

Not directly UN and EU money, some of which was UK money From the Express 2020:
The DFiD report revealed that the £71.6 million in aid was a combination of direct British aid and funding usually reserved for the United Nations and EU.
It was used to develop Chinese education, with some of the funds being spent on training primary school teachers
Funding was also allocated to train Chinese people to use advanced technology, and to “support human rights”.
Other Chinese programmes using the British funding include combatting illegal wildlife trade and setting up offshore wind-farms.

Take care reading newspapers. They don’t always give you the full picture. Of our discretionary spend (excluding those which we contribute as part of larger groups) none of what is spent in China is spent by DFID. None. The money mostly comes from BEIS and the FO. In other words the money you referenced is used to further business interests (BEIS) and foreign policy (FO) not aid (DFID). The reporting is confusing and easy to misinterpret particularly if you choose not to read the report and use it to generate clickbait. But, the truth, as ever, is a bit more nuanced than some would have you believe, or as you would have some believe.
