Any plans on posting a few articles on here smudge in the future keep the lead in the pipe sort of?? Is ‘keeping lead in the pipe’ the same as ‘doing work for free’?

Depending on if you’ve still got all the back issues saved on file, are there any plans to re-release them in e-reader / Kindle / PDF format at some point in the future? (Not right away, make sure you take a well deserved break first of all ) I’d seriously consider buying them again digitally if they were packaged together, e.g. £10 for the 92/93 season.

Kind of it’s a bit like when you finish work for the day then piss off out the house do the garden or fix the car get away from the mrs or kids 😉 What I was alluding to though was not for smudge to write the articles but perhaps we could have the odd one somebody has sent in posted to read? Because to be honest I’m going miss the oatcake on a match day in way shape or form I must have read 500 since I was a kid and it’s a bit like knowing your mums put your dog down when you left home join the army because she was too old look after him 😭true story by the way 😭

Have just read my copy of the final edition. A superb issue to go out in true style. While the editorial is quite personal, it certainly reflects the hopes, ambitions, fears and disappointments I have felt over the last 31 years. Martin's piece towards the end must surely speak to many of us of a certain age who were first introduced to the "joys" of being a Stoke supporter as a young child by our fathers, who shared their love of all things Stoke over many years and then as age and illness took its toll we were the ones supporting our fathers until the time came for them to go and watch the heroes of their youth again wherever it is that old men go. There is just enough room on my "Oatcake Shelf" for the final edition, so I have been saved the dilemma of deciding what to throw out to make room if there had been any more issues. Enjoy your well deserved "retirement" from the stresses and strains of producing a great read for every match and lets hope that there will be plenty of good times to enjoy over the next few seasons. Saturdays won't be the same again, though if I start reading them again from the start at one Oatcake per home game I might just have enough to see me through. Thanks for the nice words AlliG. Much appreciated mate! Gutted to find they had already sold out by the time I got to the ground...was looking for 4 copies (pals on holiday) Any chance of a re-print...I reckon plenty missed out

Popped for a pint after driving home and getting takeaway, and since home have read the editorial and first article and it’s a very emotive and special thing, today will have been a hard day for you guys and the likes of this printed gem truly wont ever be seen again. I suspect I’ll be “rationing “ myself and reading this issue over the coming week or so. From other comments, I’m bloody glad I got there early to get a copy . The final issue is a very fitting tribute to the decades that have gone before , so hats off to you, cheers

Thanks for the memories Smudge and all the guys who have helped keep the Oatcake going this past 30 years - what a trip!! The dark days were made more bearable by the injection of gallows humour mixed with clever insight to the thinking of the ordinary fan. Moreover, the opportunity for those fans to have their say (sensible or otherwise!) via this message board or indeed to just vent their spleen has provided a vital outlet for us all.
An incredible achievement - thanks again....

Thanks for all the work over the years, it was a fitting final edition and glad I managed to get one before they went. I'm going to miss it though I must say.

Good article regarding our time under Icelandic ownership, and I love the 'Larded' page.
