Well she looks like she’s had acid thrown at her so at least she’s speaking from experience.

..... a joke. Seriously folks I know the imbeciles who throw milk shakes are seriously stupid and should be done for assault but they have made the decision to throw something harmless for that reason.
Jo Brand is known for acerbic humour. Best presenter of HIGNFY by a country mile. She can't help being in the leftie BBC bubble it comes with the job

Big mouth Brand has said the Beeb can't sack her as she doesn't work for them as she's freelance. Well they could stop employing her on the "temporary" basis that they currently do.
Or will the Beeb just "overlook" this situation and continue as if nothing's happened ?

It's not a question of 'not being able to make a joke anymore'..
It's a question of whether it's funny..
Making 'jokes' about throwing acid at people imo isn't funny.
Especially given the huge number of acid attacks in London.. A massively growing problem.
If people started making jokes about raping babies or torturing animals.. Would that be funny?
Or do we need to set certain parameters that shouldn't be crossed in a civilised society?

Has context al but disappeared now. Surely the very nature of the show should be taken into account before the mock outrage erupts into a froth.
"Heresy is a comedy talk show on BBC Radio 4, created and originally hosted by David Baddiel, now hosted by Victoria Coren Mitchell. In the show, the presenter and a panel of guests commit "heresy" by challenging people's most deeply received opinions on a subject, in front of a studio audience. "

Pisser on here. Imagine if Farage had joked about throwing acid at Khan or Abbott? Jail sentences would be demanded.

" So when some lefty idiot throws something more sinister than milkshake due to the thick twat listening to jo brand it’s ok? Or some right wing prick does similar what happened to that MP with a knife. Because a celebrity jokes forget knives just shoot a Tory it’s ok? I get comedy I really do but sometimes in life forget the laugh and think about the consequences It’s irresponsible and undefendable

Pisser on here. Imagine if Farage had joked about throwing acid at Khan or Abbott? Jail sentences would be demanded. She never mentioned Farage or any particular Politician. It was a controversial joke on a programme that specifically exists to makes controversial jokes. I've heard Frankie Boyle say ten times worse things and they were very, very funny.

I think this furore might be more about who said it than what was said.

So have I, and I am one who thinks virtually anything goes with comedy. It was obvious who she meant, and I repeat, if it was said by someone on the right about a left wing MP it wouldn't be defended; it would be unequivocally wrong. It's more the double standard, rather than the joke itself, that irks me.

Are they going to now trawl through every joke ever recorded and start prosecuting people retrospectively? Or was it just a throw away joke that meant nothing

Pisser on here. Imagine if Farage had joked about throwing acid at Khan or Abbott? Jail sentences would be demanded. One is a politician, and one is a comedian - there is quite a bit of difference of what you expect when listening to them. However, I do think Brand's comments were very stupid in the current climate, and also simply wasn't funny enough for the humour to outweigh the potential offence that would be caused. I also think Farage has shown his true stance on free speech over this. He's clearly OK with comedy going over the lines as long as it's about the 'others'. Once it's made about him or people associated to him then he's as sensitive as some of the snowflakes he bemoans.
