Serious question; we’ve had proven goal scorers at the club who weren’t able to perform here because we create next to nothing. How is an 18 year old boy who’s only played in PL2 going to do it? I don’t get the clamour here. Yes we need a striker, yes he has potential - is that potential going to be realised this year in the championship? I would really hope so, but highly doubt it - it’s not that easy. There are at least 6 championship clubs after him including Middlesbrough.Warnock was crowing on about him in their local rag.I would love to get him here just to piss Colin off. |

I would really hope so, but highly doubt it - it’s not that easy. Which proven goal scorers are these? Afobe had scored 28 goals in the Championship before we signed him, Scott Hogan 21 - even Sam Vokes had scored 15 in a season in the Championship. Steven Fletcher had double figures in 3/4 seasons he spent in the Championship with Sheff Wed, he's yet to do that for us. Even Lee Gregory had scored 29 goals in the Championship. We've signed players with proven track records of scoring in the Championship, we just don't create enough chances. EDIT :- This sent me down a rabbit hole, because I don't have anything better to do I checked when the last time we had a striker finish the season with 10+ LEAGUE goals. You'd have to go back to 14/15 season, when Mame Diouf scored 11 goals - and by rights, he's a right back.  . Arnie scored 11 the season after but he wasn't the out-and-out striker he is today. My point is even some of the more experienced strikers seem to struggle for us, it will take something special for Delap to hit the ground running and buck that trend. Let's hope he signs, and we'll find out. |

Mental how we’ve actually got fans who would happily turn their noses up at signing one of the best young talents in world football. Brown will never be a regular goal scorer and Varian, Goodwin and Norton all need loans out in the lower leagues. The only way you get gol scorers in this league is to spend a lot of money or take a gamble on youngster from the Premier League. Abraham and Brewster both did very well coming straight into this league from youth football and Delap is much more highly thought of than both of these at this stage in his career. Fucking madness. By the time the next Euros come around I honestly expect Delap to be in the running for that England squad. He’s an outrageous talent. Mental - madness?? Turned their noses up at signing him? That hasn’t been said and that’s not my thinking. Picky picky! I’d be glad that he signs - but… it can’t be denied he is unproven at playing with men in first teams. To be fair though they seemed to be one season wonders when they hit those heady figures and have not been there since, it might be the system or what ever but they never hit it off here. Fletcher I agree with he's a steady eddy but the rest have plodded a few here and there, lets hope If Delap does come he gets the time to adapt to the championship but he seems to be a bit special and don't think he'll struggle. |

You have to wonder how much all of this speculation based on other speculation !
However if the lad does end up here I hope too much expectation isn’t going to be heaped on his shoulders - we should all know what a rough and tumble nightmare the Championship can be for a young striker. Tougher than the PL in some ways.
