Just got back from a very pleasant 5 days in Riga with the gang. On Sunday as they were resting after their half marathon exertions I popped out to explore the rest of the canal park that runs around the historic old town. I hadn't got far when I spotted what looked like the French Embassy in a very nice street so I veered off to have a closer look from a position directly across the road at which point a big bloke appeared from behind me and said "German" to which I replied "No English" assuming that he was asking my nationality although I also was calculating as to whether he was pointing towards the German Embassy with an outstretched arm but then decided this looked suspiciously like a Nazi salute.
I then got "The English are the same as the Germans", "You don't know your history" followed by a pleasant "Schwein" as I departed back into the park.
I calculated that he was a Russian import although the Latvians are not a friendly race apart from the younger generation.
Do I put this one down to Russian anti West propaganda or Brexit?
.......or does this man know his Anglo Saxon history and have his studies embraced the British Royal Family?
I'm looking for answers.

Does the "Brezhnev pub" still exist, and if so did you visit I?. (It was/is a throwback to communist times with red seats and portraits of Lenin and Brezhnev on the walls and copies "Latvian Soviet woman" scattered around the tables).

No I didn't visit it but I saw in the What's On that there were a few Soviet themed clubs featuring everything from unsmiling threatening barmen to authentic looking Soviet apartment chic.
