When did Butland take voluntery pay cut? I think the story is he had a relegation wage reduction in his premiership contract and instead of insisting on a new one upon relegation to keep him at the club he went with it That rings a bell, apologies Mr flaps. Got it slightly mixed up.

Collins is now second choice behind Baath, with Lindsay first choice left sided centre half, if my interpretation of how the manager wants two players for each position is correct. Baath Lindsay Collins BMI He certainly seemed to target Lindsay as a left-footer. And in Shawcross' absence, we'll soon see if the pecking order is now as clear-cut as Batth/Collins for the right and Lindsay/BMI for the left. I still wouldn't be shocked if we didn't take the option to move BMI on if the opportunity really is there (for all we know the Turkish reports are the usual fantasy stuff they peddle) He seems a good pro, but doesn't really want to be here, especially if he's not first-choice. He'll be on very, very good money to be a back-up Championship defender. There may be someone on 'the list' who could come in who'd take more happily to being a back-up player for us, on significantly lower wages? Ajayi would be pretty useful right now if BMI does leave (this is without trying to sound all Bayern)

I think the story is he had a relegation wage reduction in his premiership contract and instead of insisting on a new one upon relegation to keep him at the club he went with it It’s a old story if it’s true, but part of the reason why there was a dressing room rift and disunity among the players was that some had their salaries cut due to a relegation clause written into their contracts, whilst others were rewarded for their contribution to the clubs relegation by being given new contracts or the relegation clause nullified.

I believe he was offered to stay on his premiership wage like some others but unlike some others he refused on the basis it wasn’t fair as relegation was on the team not individuals.

Ryans Injury a terrible blow but, we wish him well
but why look for alternatives ?
Liam Lindsay possible ?
But why not shuffle the pack and give this lad his big chance ?
hes supposed to be the next big thing - why not now ?

Having 3 centre-backs until Xmas at the very earliest is absolute insanity. We need another body in, simple as that.
Lindsay is suspended for the first game, which puts us down to just 2 cbs so it's quite likely Collins will start anyway.
If one of the remaining 3 pick up a knock then we're down to 2 for half a season, he'd rightly be hauled over the coals for it.

It's madness enough going into the season with 3. If God forbid one gets a knock that's just absolute stupidity.
We need someone dirt cheap or on a short term loan.
BMI will probably go which just further increases the need for a deal to be done. Jones should and will be working hard to get someone in, even on a 6 month loan.

Shouldn't we wait until the team selection on Saturday before starting up these threads? I mean, there's a very high chance he'll start on Saturday then who knows?

Q) How do I know he wont be thrown in ?
A) I dont but its easy to construe he wont be starting yet because right now, we are out looking for alternatives according to the media.

Why not simply promote Forrester who played alongside Collins last season. I'm not saying put him in the team right away. But as the 4th of 4 he could stand by, and in the process he could learn a lot from training with senior pros.
If further problems ensue, such as Batth breaking his leg, or Lindsay suspended again, we will then have a player who knows how we play and what is expected of him. We might get to see the central defending pairing for the next 17 years playing together now.

Bloody hell, we don't really have an option but to throw Collins in this Saturday with Lindsay being unavailable, unless Bruno is still here and plays. A strange post really, but to be expected from the OP.

Can I just point out we've not played a game yet - how do you know he won't be?
I think he'll start on Saturday, albeit out of necessity but if he proves himself what's to say he doesn't keep his place?
Also, the structure of your posts gives me a headache.

Don't we have 4 centre backs?
Baath, Lindsey, Collins, BMI
I wouldn't let BMI go at this time of year, i'd let him go during Jan, when you can get a higher price too.

Puts tremendous pressure of Forrester to step up though, and he has nowhere near the same hype about him that Collins does. I refuse to believe if we ended up with a back central pairing of Forrester and Collins, Jones wouldn't be attacked for not getting enough cover in.
