Hopefully we dont fall into the trap of calling him a 'kiddy' until he is 26 before he leaves having played 5 games a season. Get him in the starting XI alongside one of the experienced lads and see if he can cut it

Good for the immediate future. But if he lives up to the hype we need get him on a deal with no release clause ASAP If he lives up to the hype then the player's agent's going to make sure that there's a release clause, or that future wage offers reflect his true or potential value. Are we not then heading towards the same scenarios that have left us saddled with players we can't shift when the reality doesn't match the promise? I'm not saying we shouldn't give him a lengthy and rewarding contract, just pointing out how difficult it must be to get the balance right.

Why are people automatically assuming that there's a release clause of 20m? it looks to me like a figure plucked out of thin air rather than a specific number written into his new contract. Indeed. There's no way the players agent would agree to a minimum release clause of 18m.

Could do with Campbell signing a new contract as well, not sure what the situation is with his current one?!

Another great deal struck by Tony, the exact reason he needs to stay as the CEO.
(And he looks dashing)

So happy with this!
After years of shit, the club finally seem to be getting their act together.
All I am seeing is positive news and its such a relief from the negativity we have had to endure.
Seems "The Process" is nearly in full swing.

Player signs a 5 year contract. I await the usual suspects complaining about tying a player down to such a long contract at some time in the future. But, seriously, very pleased to see this!

Now to play him.

Still wouldn't be gobsmacked to see him loaned out this season.
If BMI stays, it looks a near certainty?
And, if he goes, is it better for him to play 40 games at somewhere like Sunderland or 10-12 here behind Lindsay, Shawcross and Batth?
But, in that situation, you'd think he'd have to stay here as No.4 choice?

Scholes gets his fair share of deserved shit, but that's a cracking deal for us.
Now play the fucker.

Indeed,a long contract is good for the club when the player lives up to expectations but bad if he doesn't,which is why we're saddled with the likes of Imbula and Wimmer

Hope the club and manager have the balls to play him regularly, although it's easy to say that from the sidelines, with no pressure! Like to see him stay and nail down a starting place if he's as good as he is purported to be and he's different from our other defenders with his ability to use the ball. ...but agree wouldn't be gobsmacked if he is loaned out.
