As back up? Who have we got that is supposedly better than him. We have loads who can't head a ball and couldn't hit a barn door. Exactly this. We will struggle to get a better player than him for the AM position.

A no brainer as one of the first team squad, if this really was an option. Would say the same though about Alan Browne (Preston), Fer & Martin Olseen (Swansea), Frazier Campbell (Hull), Barbet (Brentford) and Morrison (Brum) and probably a few others. Assuming wages and contract length were sensible. Freebies (and loans) allow us to strengthen depth and spend our money on the 4-5 players that matter most - the above might not all strengthen the first X1, but they'd be good back up and competition. You always come up with good names but I think Jones feels some of the players rowett bought in, I.e mcclean, ince afobe, will need to be the back up players. He's surely looking at bringing in the 5-6 we need to go straight in to the first team Yes, you are probably right.

Bojan will go and one of Ince or Verlinden would move forward... Probably Ince. I’d move Ince on if it’s possible I don’t think he can play the tip of the diamond and he is no forward I am of the opinion that Jone's Diamond plays with one forward who drifts wide to either flank to draw defenders out of position and one physical forward to dominate the remaining CB's attention to increase space for the on-coming 10. I'm confident that Ince can do the drifting role as he is too dangerous to just leave wide and he is proven at scoring and creating which are the responsibilities he would be sharing with the 10 in the system. I could however be totally off the mark. But just saying it how I see it.

Elliot Lee (38 apperances) has being doing it for most of this season and he is a natural left winger, he plays on the left of Collins and drifts left to pull defenders out with him or be left in space. He is on 11 goals and 4 assists for them right now. Harry Cornick (31 appearances) who is a natural right winger does much the same but on the other side and is on 6 goals 4 assists. Kazenga LuaLua (22 appearances) fulfills a much more traditional winger role when they want proper width, possibly like Verlinden may do for us and he is on 2 goals and 9 assist's.

I've seen a lot of Powell right from his very early days at Crewe.
He's a top player, has a good attitude and would be absolutely ideal either as number 10 in a diamond or just off Vokes in a top 2.

most players don't even know which club they are playing for Slight exaggeration maybe? For some I think it is only a very slight exaggeration

Looks like Powell could be done very quickly then?! Interesting start to the summer, good player if we can keep him fit.

Wouldn't be surprised. If the club say they'll pay his wages (maybe part-subsidised by Bmouth?), would think Jones would be heavily influenced by Andy Quy's warm words about him. And, at 31, there's no reason why he should be a spent force.

He is a good player. Better than he has played this season. Good addition for us and NJ.

Nixon says he'll reveal who it is on twitter later. So possibly Powell, Begovic or AN Other?

Breaking transfer news hours after the season has finished, don't you just love it? it's not going to be dull, that's for sure.

Not a chance he’ll come here. Doesn’t someone on here know him? And says he despises stoke? I think that's been totally over exaggerated. It doesn't matter anyway, he's out of contract and won't give a shit where his next packet is coming from, he'll pick the best package that's available as a whole.

Is Nick Powell the type of player for high press, attacking football?
I always thought he was a Sheringham type number ten, who floated around, rather than an all action athlete.
??

Watching Wigan in the FA Cup are a few times it seemed like the rest of the team did all the running for him... We'll see, if he signs.

I'm not knocking him, always rated him as a good footballer but listening to Jones he has gone out of his way numerous times to outline the type of player he will be bringing in.
Good character. Been promoted. Good footballer. Good athlete.

??
Also has ruined his own career this far through being known to have a terrible attitude - why Man Utd got rid of gin and he was sent back off loan from Leicester. Add the last he’s not started consistently for Wigan and has injury problems but hey we don’t ever seem to learn our lesson so bring him in. Bad attitude, consistent injury problems and doesn’t fit the system - he’s perfect for us. Bring him in 🙄

Leicester sent him back off loan with then because of it. There are reports such as him lying on the floor in training when he didn’t like something and refusing to get up. Perhaps now he is a bit older he got a bit more sense about him but there is a reason he’s been playing at Wigan and it’s not due to him not being talented. He did have his injury but that’s not the reason his career took a nose dive. A google search of Nick Powell and attitude will bring all of this up for you.
