Powell is the perfect fit for Stoke. He ran Williams ragged at our place earlier in the season. Seems to of added a lot of aggression to his games When fit, my view is Powell is a step above the Championship. Keeping him fit is the key. I’d be desperately disappointed if he wasn’t at least on our radar. He’d be spot on for that number 10 role.

But surely you can see we’ve had a problem with people who don’t really want to be here? It isn’t the same thing is it? That’s been about career and career prospects, not about some mindless tribalism that’s going to stand in the way of enhancing a player’s career prospects or earning capacity. For me it’s a different side of the same coin. Not you but other people on this board saying the money will change his mind is enough to make you weep after what we’ve had to put up with over the last three years. Rare as they may be, we need players who want to play for this club and I am sure there are plenty of young players who will see this as a great opportunity and be proud to play for us rather than someone who seems slightly unhinged and has been known to never really like us. We’ve established that paying people more than other teams in this league means absolutely nothing if their mentality is not right. It just doesn’t even seem the best starting place at all with him.

Just had a word with my son and YES Stoke have made Nick powell an offer. This isn't the first time Stoke have approached him either, Rowett was interested and Stoke were making enquiries in January but the managerial situation at the time was an obvious obstacle. I'll let you all know if I hear anything more but if he accepts it then it'll probably be in the public domain anyway. Gouranga.

Get what you are saying but really don't think it matters a jot. The passion you need is for your team and team mates. If he was integrated into a system and ethos that our new manager will hopefully foster, then he could be a star. I don't think that some youthful feelings would get in the way of that. If they even exist.

Alas, I suppose it will make for some entertainment if he joins and we do need to replace Charlie with a similar level of unpredictability or it might be quiet boring!

A no brainer as one of the first team squad, if this really was an option.
Would say the same though about Alan Browne (Preston), Fer & Martin Olseen (Swansea), Frazier Campbell (Hull), Barbet (Brentford) and Morrison (Brum) and probably a few others. Assuming wages and contract length were sensible.
Freebies (and loans) allow us to strengthen depth and spend our money on the 4-5 players that matter most - the above might not all strengthen the first X1, but they'd be good back up and competition.

Talk about covering your own arse. No. It's just a fact.😊 More of an opinion to try and make yourself relevant. I'v heard Vincent Kompany is out of contract in the summer and Stoke have approached him too. He'd love to join but he's going to keep his options open until the summer. So if he doesn't join, at least we "tried"

Please not another five year deal with no get out clause. It won't be. The five year deals are for expensive signings, to spread the signing on fee over five years rather than three. Presumably reducing the impact on FFP as the fee is amortised over the length of the contract? Quite savvy really.

You always come up with good names but I think Jones feels some of the players rowett bought in, I.e mcclean, ince afobe, will need to be the back up players. He's surely looking at bringing in the 5-6 we need to go straight in to the first team

It has to be done if avoiding the perils of FFP. It’s a shame the fact isn’t more widely known rather than many hammering the club for long contracts being given. It still makes shifting your bad signings tough of course!

Makes it very difficult Imbula and Wimmer will almost certainly see out their contracts without playing another game for Stoke. Again not unique to Stoke, Sunderland have players on their books on big money who won't play. I think no matter who is in charge this will occur what is criminal is we had so many big signing failures from Jan 2016 to summer 2017

Could live with him as second choice #10 on a free, we could do with a first choice though that's not got a fitness/injury history concern if we are playing for promotion.
Decent signing as a second choice #10 or a one of two signings for #10

This is a player who has ruined his own career through having a bad attitude. Yes he had his injury but that’s not why Man Utd gave up on him and Leicester sent him back off his loan.
Add to that his injuries and the fact he hasn’t started consititently at Wigan.
And everyone here wants him. The mind boggles it really does. We will never learn 🙈
