I was on a cruise last week and started playing Poker, never played it before but the dealers were really helpful, however since back i cannot find that version of poker anywhere or the name of it.
A few times it was just me v the Cards, Min bet 5euros max bet 50euros, and as i did not know how to play i was playing 5 euros.
So there were 3 circles..one circle where you put a 1 euro insurance chip and the second circle where i put my minimum 5 euro chip, then the dealer deals 5 cards to me and him, one to him , one to me etc but the dealer own shows one card.... if i like my hand i can play on, but have to double my initial stake to the 3rd circle , which in this case was 5 euros.. so in total 16 euros...also because i had a 1 euro insurance chip i can swap a card for 5 euros if i wanted, but then the insurance chip is taken away..then i can either fold or play on...
The minimum for the Dealer to qualify was Ace and King, the dealer then turns his cards over and pays out or takes the money, if i played and he did not qualify then i get paid my my initial stake back.
Does that make sense??? what i liked about it was that i could show him my hand and he could advise me, because i was playing the cards and not him.
Sometimes there were 5 players playing but all against the cards and not each other.
When i watch on TV, they all seem to be playing against other....so what version of poker was i playing??

Doesn't really sound like poker at all to be honest. Sounds like a house game that uses poker hands as a means of determination. Actual poker is not played vs the house, it's played vs the other players playing. The house just takes a fee for the rake.

The one on TV is usually No Limit Texas Holdem, plenty of places to play that both online and in casinos, the oft used quote is that it takes 5 minutes to learn and a lifetime to master I'd read at least a couple of books before wagering much, Harrington's are pretty good.

You were playing 3 card poker.
Go to any local casino if you fancy playing again.

Better off playing poker tournaments, no house edge, they take a flat commission on the entry fee and players play each other.

Do they still hold regular Poker tournaments at the Genting?
I used to play now and then on Friday night's around 10 years or so ago and really enjoyed it. Totally different experience to online Poker which doesn't hold any appeal for me anymore, too many players in the tournaments these days.

Wouldn't mind going up again one night me sen. The best finish I ever got was 12th one Friday night, just missed out on the final table. At one stage I was the chip leader after bagging pocket aces twice on the bounce, followed by AK straight after, cleaned up in three hands, then proceeded to catch nothing at all for best part of two hours and lost my stack by trying to stay busy. Gutted

Gutted I've probably played in half a dozen tournaments up there and never cashed :/ Early noughties I played Southampton Grosvenor quite a few times, used to final table lots there but I was reading books and logging lots of hands online. Best live cash was £1320 in Luton about 10 years ago, did a deal when we got down to two, he got £1660, he had the bigger stack.

I've won a couple of tournaments online back in the early 2000's on the old Paradise Poker site, which in my opinion was the best site. They had a tourney called the "Ocean" that used to be $30 buy in and no re-buys. I won that twice for a combined total of around $2700. My most gutting moment was on the same site when I placed 2nd in a Tourney where first prize was a seat in Vegas at the the World series, that tourney started at 9pm on a Saturday night and I finished at 6am Sunday morning!!!!

So basically i was not playing real Poker then?? no its a casino game although in a form i have never seen? my honest advice is dont start playing it, have wasted too much money as its too easy to play and yes you get good wins when playing the bonus boxes but the house will always win

online poker is my hobby/pastime while mar lady watches shit tv when i first started i had delusional ideas of becoming a pro and making a living out of it but it doesn,t work like that unless you put hours and hours studying the game due to my limited intellegence and cba attitude i found my limits were to hope to bink the odd good score and learn enough not to be a total fish and donk my roll off regulary which ive done , after playing for 12 years now i play online for free basically winning enough not to deposit and sometimes withdrawing a chunk to pay a mortgage payment or pay a deposit for a holiday i even bought my dog from my poker winnings i love the game its a good hobby which sometimes rewards but i know my limits and keep good bankroll management which is key gl at the tables folks

I think becoming a pro is easier playing ring games, the higher variance in mtt's makes it much harder to win consistently imo, sadly for me that's the variety I enjoy most, get bored too quickly and lose my discipline in ring games, often followed by my cash :/
