You've all probably got yours by now? And maybe even had a text and e-mail about it. On first glance it looks like it wants full payment and not split up as it normally is. That's a hefty whack for people on a budget. However on closer inspection of the bill, you may still pay in installments. Very naughty from ST and not a very clear "Crystal Mark" bill at all. The information about installments is on the last page in pretty small writing! Hopefully you haven't paid yours yet and so can decide whether ST should get all the money now or just 1/2!

Water meter if you are a couple or live alone will save you a good whack normally. My bill dropped from £50 a month to £30, free installation too.

We had a water meter fitted yesterday. They were supposed to do it in April but turned up yesterday unannounced while nobody was home, installed the meter, left no paperwork whatsoever and the first we knew of it was when we turned a tap on later in the evening and now’t came out. Quick check with next door and, sure enough their water was ok, so call to water company (Wessex Water in our case) who had no record of any work being done but sent someone out to check it all out and, lo and behold, they hadn’t turned the water back on. Hoping our bill will go down from £92/month to half that now the two daughters have buggered off

The average water rates for 2018/19 is £511 for unmetered supply which includes the £50 rebate we get from central government to help with coast cleanup charges. Our home is on metered supply and we pay £37 a month plus we get £50 rebate which is £394 a year. A couple of tips for water saving If it’s yellow let it mellow.....overnight don’t flush pee until morning When cleaning your teeth don’t leave taps running Fit a water butt for the garden If you have a Combi-boiler consider fitting a Combisave valve. This slows down the water flow until the correct temperature is reached and also avoids having to have boiler water pre heat switched on. This saves both water and gas and costs around £50 plus installation but could be done by a competent diy enthusiast as there are no gas connections. Boiler pre heat costs around £100 a year plus water savings it will quickly pay for itself.

Will be looking in to a 'combisave valve' later today.

Great tip on the combi-save. My mother's house takes an age to get hot. That will save shed-loads.

However I’ve been on metered water for 15 years and year after year I’ve saved hundreds of pounds by taking simple measures to conserve water. So your mythical carrot has been dangling to no detrimental effect that I can see.

Great tip on the combi-save. My mother's house takes an age to get hot. That will save shed-loads. Make sure her combi-boiler has the option to switch off the water pre heat which is where the biggest saving will be made. Some boilers have fixed pre heat system that can’t be switched off.
