Turns 73 today. I wouldn't normally use this Board to give birthday wishes, but some people are sufficiently important and as I forgot to post his card, I must do something to gain forgiveness ! He tells me the circus currently playing in 'Castle are putting on a party for him after the show tonight. I knew he would have roped in someone to do that He is 3 months older than me. Each year on this day he tells me that " I'm x (enter age in here) and I've beaten you to that AGAIN", as indeed he has beaten me for the last 54 years. I think I am going to struggle to reverse this trend

A lovely man.
Met him outside the Harvester hours after a particular game was over waiting for his 'lift' (Macari!) down to London for a ceremony to do with 'Marvellous'. So friendly, sooooooooo positive.
Many happy returns Nello.

Happy Birthday Nello !
I could be a football manager.... it doesn't have to be Stoke, but I'd draw the line at Port Vale 😄

Shame on you Malcolm, forgetting the card! Happy Birthday Nello I am unlikely to hear the last of it for a while, Leics., and I'll be lucky if he doesn't get it put on Radio Stoke as the lead story ! It will be delivered by hand at the game tomorrow ( I'm putting it in my bag now ! )

Malcolm, you, me and Nello, were all born in the same year within a few months of one another, as you well know. Nello is the oldest - then me a month later and then the baby of the group, you, arrived a month or two later than that. No wonder people keep on getting us confused! To be honest I'm getting fed up of being asked by Stokies for my autograph and then being abused when they look at my signature and realise I am neither you nor Nello! Happy birthday Nello!

Happy birthday, Nello.
It's one of the most joyous declarations and observations on how to treat life I have ever heard, and non-Stokies I know who saw the film were deeply affected by it. However, I do question Nello's bona fides (or is that bonam fidem?). Is it really possible on the one hand to be a Stokie. And on the other to be relentlessly positive and optimistic? What a film. Funny, moving, beautifully acted and scripted. It really was marvellous.

Happy Birthday Nello, you young thing. I could do with your optimitic outlook on life, right now. Travelling to matches has become an absolute nightmare, not helped by so many more matches and mainly played midweek. The next few games include rail engineering works and the closure of Euston for two weekends, the Boro game prevents usual free parking as Bank Holuday is only Sat, Sunday and Easter Monday while Good Friday is not considered as a Bank Holuday, so nowhere to park!
Today, I’ve just discovered that not only rail engineering preventing a trip up for Norwich City via Euston but via Derby as well😩
Hope you’ve had a good day and will bring us some luck tomorrow but please let me know how you will manage to be cheerful if we do not find the net, once more. XX

Happy birthday Nello. I know you've been waiting a long time for this, but yes I forgive you for tripping up my little brother in a game up Keele in the early 90s

Neil was holding court on Friday in his ' office", the refectory at Keele university. His positivity is genuine. A few years back I asked him how his team had gone on after the first match of the season. " Lost 7-4"
" That's bad Neil"
" They were 4 great goals"
" But you let in 7"
" I know but it gives us something to work on in training"...... said with real enthusiasm, as though the other side had done him a favour.
"Fair enough"
