The news is unlikely to make Alan Shearer cheer up or the Geordie nation.

Loved the Monkees tv as a kid and the music as an adult. Favourite track Goin' down, B side of Daydream believer. Me and my 3 siblings all picked a favourite from the group, as we did the Beatles too. Mine was Mickey Dolenz who looked like a mate of mines brother!

RIP Peter, my favourite Monkee. I had a couple of annuals, all the albums, watched the tv show.
Favourite track = Valleri. Sparkling guitar work, even if that was done by a session musician. Steppin Stone wonna bad either.

My personal favourite. Fantastic stuff. What a band. My favourite too. I have a feeling it is about a young Vietnam conscript. Asking for a final evening with his girlfriend before being shipped out to the combat zone. "And I don't know if I'm ever coming home". Makes a good song even better, and very very poignant.

They were a must watch growing up. Bit zany but that made it all the better.
RIP.
