As I embrace a bit of vegetationism I've decided to up the nut intake. Getting expensive, and owt from H&B costs an arm and a leg. There used to be a Health Food Warehouse in Tunstall, not sure such things still exist. Looking to buy unsalted cashews, monkey nuts and such in lb quantities. Pak Foods? Any market stalls? Can't think, any help appreciated. Potteries/Leek..
Edit: Chicken, peanut butter, cashews, sesame seeds in the meantime.

There's one next door to the Lloyd's Chemist in Shelton, roughly opposite Pak Foods that I believe sells loose stuff like that. You could also try Wing Lee up by the Brit, just off Dennis Viollet Av.

Hazelnuts, Brazil and Cashews.
After my own research these 3 in their un-salted state are the best you can eat, but have to be eaten in small amounts. More as a snack than a meal supplement. All can be purchased from Aldi, cheaply.

Pine nuts are delicious, especially lightly browned in a frying pan. I also like cashew nuts in pastas because they're softer, and crushed pistachios on my oats in the morning. They do them in all the main supermarkets. They're a little expensive though.

Try some Macadamia nuts. They're a bit more expensive than some of the others mentioned, but still very tasty.

I'm sure you'd love them. Cost-wise, nuts are expensive, so you're better off buying nuts in larger packs than the small ones you usually see in supermarkets, if you can find a wholefoods (etc.) outlet you're happy with.

I'm surprised. They're supposed to be mega-good for us. (As are walnuts.) If you have a look at the Grape Tree link I've just posted for Cheesy a few minutes ago they do loads of organic (and non-organic) stuff. I think there might also be a link on their www giving details of properties, vitamins, minerals, etc., of various different nuts. There's a booklet sent with every Grape Tree delivery giving all this sort of info, and it's been very well written and put together. Oh, incidentally, I placed an order with them a couple of weeks or so ago and included a couple of 1 litre bottles of your magic Cider Vinegar on it! It was directly after we'd been discussing it on 'ere.

I'm gobsmacked - not to mention horrified - one or two posts say certain shops have open self-service containers of nuts that people can put their hands into? (And obviously do…..) Do they still have these containers, or was this in the past?
Surely to goodness there must be some sort of Hygiene Standards ruling covering/prohibiting this sort of thing?
What I'm getting at is if you look at the situation likening it to the findings - many times - when open bowls of peanuts from pub bars have been analysed……. you get my drift.
Same sort of thing is likely to happen in this case, plus hands that could go into containers of nuts are covered in all sorts of other germs/bacteria they'll have picked up whilst shopping - from door handles and handling money, coughing/sneezing, etc. This is horrible!

I think they have a high mould content murph so no almonds, walnuts, pecans and hazelnuts I'm ok with I make my own muesli with Chia seed, sunflower seed, flax seeds almonds walnuts and coconut flakes and coconut oil Make a weeks worth roast it in the oven the day before munching on it Just add unsweetened almond milk and blueberries Those Brazil nuts look like pulled teeth 😉

Oh, sorry, Rick, my fault for using ambiguous terminology, me bein' a top chef, an' all that ( NOT - I only reckon stuff's cooked when the kitchen smoke alarm starts going off). By 'toasting' I meant browning them, either in a dry frying pan or for a few mins in either the oven or you can even do them in a microwave.

I bought a 1kg bag of brazils so I might decant some to the freezer. I use loads of walnuts and coconut too, mainly in cakes. I also bought some 500g bags of mixed nuts to try to remember to reach for during those sudden nom nom nom moments when usually only a vast amount of very moreish cheeselets will do. You know..... you start with one at a time, then it's two, then four, then..... etc., and it's torture to try to stop. Same as wine gums. The Cider vinegar's great, btw. xxx

Glad the acv is working I found it worked better after a few weeks
