It is very strange, but I feel like part of my childhood went with Gordon on his journey today. Does anyone else feel something similar ?. I suppose it's because we felt such an affinity with our team, we just lived and breathed Stoke City and the players were so approachable . Waddo has his number 1 keeper back in goal. We will never forget you Gordon Banks, we love you.

Don Mullan. His speech was very moving. Bit annoying that the sentinel haven't bothered to mention either him or his speech. They did manage though, on the Gordon Banks OBE video montage, to slot in a quick 15-second Ad for Cardi B(?!)’s new track. I really didn’t expect anything less, when I clicked on it.

Im surprised they didn’t make you fill in a survey midway through tbh. Haven’t read anything about it on any of the news sites - sentinel, bbc, itv. Weird...you’d think the media had some agenda or something...

No pressure on Jack and the other keepers carrying the coffin. Imagine if the worst had happened...phew.😅😅😅 RIP Gordon and best wishes to your family. Bit risky involving Joe Hart.

My Dad started taking me to Stoke in the early 1970s, and I saw Gordon several times before his fateful car accident. The real truth is that my Dad had to bribe me with a bag of sweets that included a curly wurly in order for me to actually go with him. He propped me up on the crush railings in the Boothen End and I chomped on my bag of sweets oblivious to Greenhoff, Banks and Co. I honestly don't recall that much. I did love the crowd roaring, and when we scored a goal. So I became hooked eventually, so thanks Dad for getting me interested. My favourite player was Gordon Banks, mainly then because he was also England's goalie.
I went along to the stadium today to see Stoke City, the City of Stoke and Gordon's family give Gordon a fantastic send off. Gordon and the team of 72 to me represent the last 'local team'. That is players who would live locally and join in the local community. Stoke City and North Staffordshire meant something to them. They didn't just come to Stoke to collect a wage. It was more important to them than. They wanted to win the Cup for the people of Stoke as much as themselves. That is now missing as money has become everything in football. Immensely proud of how professionally everything was organised today - the beam back, Radio Stoke coverage, and Stoke City web coverage, all giving everyone the chance to share in the occasion. Even the weather wasn't too bad. As many have mentioned, SCFC hasn't always been the best in terms of PR, but today and since Gordon's death it has been class. Central TV devoted their whole programme to the day, which giving they are Brum based was really surprising, and I think they were blown away with what they saw.
Stoke City and their supporters will never see an occasion like this again. I don't think there is anyone in the modern game who comes close to Gordon. The mix of reaching the very highest point in football (World Cup winner), AND winning Stoke City's only trophy, AND being the perfect gent and ambassador can never be achieved again at Stoke. I am so so pleased that I attended today to see and witness Gordon's send off. This will live long in my memory as does Stanley Matthews send off. We are so lucky to have had such players as Gordon and Stan, but there is sadness that football has turned greedy, and there is no going back. There is very little loyalty anymore.
The past two or three seasons at Stoke have been hard on the footballing side, but today makes us realise that Stoke City is far far more than just about football. It is a football family whose roots run 50 years or more into history. We are a very proud footballing City, and we today celebated the life of one of the best players that we will ever have. Ever have! Thanks Stoke City for today, Thanks to Coates family for their contribution and especially for Peter's words in the Minster, to Gordon's close family for the dignity they have shown and Wendy's wonderful words at Stoke Minster, to Geoff Hurst and the fellow professionals that arrived to show their respect, to the people of Stoke Minster for a wonderful service, and to the people of North Staffordshire and surrounding area for coming out in their droves to give SIR GORDON the best send off we could muster.
Gordon Banks thanks for the memories. RIP.

What an incredible noise at the beamback yesterday made by the courtship ritual of the two Sparrowhawks? in the middle of the service. I don't think I've ever seen or heard that anywhere out and about.

Tastefully done. Proud to have seen most of his games. Stood behind the opposite net when he made his Hurst penalty save, my abiding memory.
Sad to see Huddy in such a state yesterday.
Someone just phoned to say they’ve seen Berahino standing outside Stoke Minster in his suit this morning 😂

I think that was why I got so emotional against Aston Villa and to a degree yesterday .. it was like looking back through my entire personal and Stoke supportering life in the space of moments , Don Mullen nailed it with words yesterday , he really did . I’m not as blessed to find the words , so could only express it with my heart and through tears ..I hope in both our own ways we gave the great man the respect and thanks he deserved .. and he somehow knows it

Newbon still going strong mate at 73 I remember him being put in his place by Cloughie many years ago on some sports programme he hosted, think someone suggested Clough put him straight about Stan too. Didn't he predict a speedy return to the championship for the club in 2008? Anyway not the time or place to air any bad feeling. Couldn't fault the telly on their coverage, well terrestrial anyway. I look at Sky in pubs, that's my limit with them..

Did anyone manage to actually attend the funeral service ? I saw a few supporters on the web cam ..... Angela Smith, Martin Smith, Roger & David Davies, Nick Mansfield, Malcolm Clarke, Nello.
I can only assume that they were invited separately from those that were successful in the club ballot ?

Wondered if he was hoping to score a doggy bag from the wake for his supper

Newbon still going strong mate at 73 Think Newbon did a piece on Central News the day Banks died.. prob more due to his Leicester link & fondness. He's more of an infrequent contributor these days than any meaningful role.. Was a strange controversial character from what I remember of his reporting & presenting although Sky employed him for a time so he must of created an impression whilst working for Central.

To be fair, on Central news Leicester and Chesterfield were mentioned but it was largely concentrating on Stoke.
Hardly a poor show really, more to be expected that the areas he played for would focus on his time when he was in that area.
All that's important is that he's remembered and he was in Leicester on BBC East Midlands, and was around here on Central so all bases covered. It isn't (and shouldn't be) about any kind of "Ownership" of his memory.

Yesterday was beautiful.
He got the send off he deserved from the club and the city. Well done everyone.
Bittersweet feelings, ultimately overridden by pride.
The lady from the Alzheimer’s Society summed it up for me when she was interviewed for TV. She didn’t know much about footy, but was completely enamoured with the man through working with him for the charity for the last few years.
A great man.

He did play the majority of his career for Stoke which got no mention.

Just got back from Warrington, having read two or three newspapers in Cafe Nero in the town centre. Some nice tributes to Gordon in them. Tears in my eyes again as I read them. Loved by everyone, was my interpretation of them all. There are not many you can say that about. Banks of England. The best!!!

We should build a statue as big as the colossus of rhodes and sing his name at every game. We were extremely lucky to have a legend like Gordon Banks.
