The funny thing is that the children of those who went to war to fight nazism would think nothing of making the nazi salute in jest, and no one seemed to be too offended by it at the time. The further away in time we've got from it, the more offended we're told to be. I agree entirely - why couldn't he just admit he was being a dick and trying to be funny instead of fabricating a bizarre story. In the right context the Nazi salute is hilarious!
