Can anyone think of a manager in the last ten years that has come back from the abyss (head under the axe) to successfully progress a side forward?
Fergie famously dodged the axe all those years ago when mark robins scored.

Roy at Fulham from a relegation perspective though to a Euro Final. Though I'm not aware if he'd lost the fans at any point.

Not 10...
For me you have to go back 30 odd years to 83/4 ... Kendall at Everton ... FA cup game at Stoke ... Everton in mid table the previous home gate was 13,000 with leaflets and protests in full cry , Kendall on the verge of the sack . (though some point to the turning point being Oxford in the league cup shortly after)
Resulted in a full Everton save or bury him turnout at Stoke, Kendall famously opened the dressing room windows and simply said , that’s your team talk, don’t let them down Everton won , went onto win the FA cup .. won the league the season after , together with the ECWC , the semi v Bayern Munich in the ECWC is touted as the best game ever seen at Goodison ..

Allardyce didn't win for 8 or 9 games somewhere (Sunderland, I think, but maybe Palace). He'd be my least favourite choice for Stoke manager anyway. Paul Ince didn't win for a while at Macclesfield. There have been loads in the lower leagues.
Edit: Yeah, I know someone will say there have been 20+ games this season. There are managers in the lower leagues who've turned a poor run over that period around, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

No.
Added to the fact that Gaz lacks the charisma and it isn’t looking good for the man.
He’ll end up at a League One outfit next, fail there and will then struggle to get anything decent.

Doesn't happen in today's football, seems the only way is to chop.

Fergie famously dodged the axe all those years ago when mark robins scored. Nope, he is doomed. You are dead right in that history is the best predictor of the future... which is why I fear, though, that the club won't sack him until a couple of days from the transfer deadline. This will make it impossible for a newcomer to demand the players they will inevitably need to have a fighting chance for the 2nd half of the season: While we needed N'Diaye a year or so ago, we so really needed a striker too. But "oops, sorry, we ran out of time... we did try you know... none available." However, sack him now, and the demands of Allardyce or Moyes who are no-one's fool, would place one almighty challenge at the door of the hierachy to show the ambition they talk about.

Yes. Lee Johnson in January 2017, Bristol had a club record 8th straight defeat. Banners of "JOHNSON OUT" were seen around the ground. A year later they were in the league cup semi final

He certainly needs a mark robins moment. Who knows, a good cup win could kickstart our season......
I can but hope

Martin O'Neill in his first season at Leicester. If I remember correctly, he took over from Mark McGhee who'd left for Wolves, it can't have been long after the Sheron/Keith Scott swap. Things started badly, fans were ripping up seats after about a dozen games.

He was never slow to remind anyone that would listen about the stick he got before securing popularity
