Im trying to get some car insurance for my son who is 19yrs old, Quotes are coming back for about 1500 quid on a 1000cc Saxo, Hes got no noclaims and only recently passed his test. Anyone got any ideas on places to try. Cheers in advance.

I insured our 18 year old for a 1.2 punto by applying as the policyholder and also putting the misses on it as well as him and it came to 429 fully comp. You have to put yourself as the main user. His own quote was 4000 fully comp.

Same problem with my daughter mate. Ended up 1,100 with Swintons for a 1.2 Corsa 2001 plate.
Afraid it would probably be more for a lad.
Oh that includes Breakdown for 85 quid

desman2....Does your son earn any no claims bonus that way? Its definatley a lot more expensive for boys than girls, We insured our daughter for about 800 quid on a 51 plate corsa 6 months ago, We cant get anything like that for the lad.

Having worked in the business I can confirm that quote sounds correct. Put him on your policy or grin and bear it I'm afraid. I did hear of one insurer that will allow him to build his own NCD on your policy, might have been Norwich Union.
Good luck, have you tried confused.com? that's quite good.

His own quote was 4000 fully comp. TBH ive considered doing that because they do come through a lot cheaper. My only concern was him getting any NCB.

No he dosnt but he does go on the road legal although I used myself as the main user to make it clear that the only person to claim would be me, to deter him from trying to race around. In other words crash and you pay yourself but at least youre legal.
The heavy price was on a comparison site and was just for him.

Yes fair enough thats what we might end up having to do until he gets a bit older and more experience.

I did a similar thing with Churchills but they would only do it with your spouse, They gave your spouse full no claims for the first year so long as she didnt have a claim in that time, After 12 months she had full no claims.

Has he done his PASS PLUS because if he aint, doing so should bring his own insurance down by atleast 200/300 quid.

Ive had quotes come through off them using confused and they are about 1700, Seems a bit steep for a 1000cc motor thats only worth 700 quid. Its probably worth me speaking to them direct just to make sure. How old are you BTW

Just an update for anyone thats interested, I ended up insuring my son with Admiral. I currently have Multicar insurance for me the wife and daughter with Admiral so i asked about adding him to that policy. They said they would insure him at a cost of £1050 fully comp and thats with no noclaims bonus which i thought was really good. Under the Multicar Policy each person earns thier own bonus just in case you didnt know and as you add more cars (Upto a max of 5 i think) the price comes down on the other policys. ;D

put my brother on my insurance, learner, then just passed two weeks ago. Cost in total £440. With Norwich Union. We both will get NCB, (I only have 2 years myself). Normally if it was only me, I would only go for 3rd party fire and theft. ut with him on it I went for fully comp.

I went on money supermarket and was getting quotes around the 1800 quid mark
Went on Churchill, got o quote (which I took) for £1030 Fully comp, courtesy car, free rcovery £350 excess that wa son a 1.3 Ka though
I had an accident the other week, where a tree got in my way during wet, greasy driving conditions. Anyway, they gave me a very good offer for me car, picked it up and were very helpful, as I have protected no claims - that doesnt come into affect for a year, but my insurance is only going up 8% next year, so its not to bad.
The only downside, cus i was a young driver, my excess changed from £350 to £600
So in short - TRY CHURCHILL
