I ended up on the radio today talking about this! I wasn't going to any of the gigs but just texted in saying there's loads else going on in Manchester and I'd still make use of my hotel room if I'd booked one. I remember one night a couple of years ago when a gig in Manc got cancelled - I looked what else was on and there was all sorts. Scooter was one. I ended up seeing a Nigerian r&b singer called Sister Cookie at the tiny Night and Day on Oldham Street, and it was a brilliant gig. Wonder if it's possible that they'll pull the Liam Gallagher run of shows next month? Definitely. Maybe.

No idea but the UK's biggest promotor (he brought back the Stone Roses & also brought Take That back) is behind it & part of it all and he know's his shit, so fuck knows what's going on SJM are only a minor stakeholder in it (and by all accounts are not happy with how things have been going). Its City Football Group (Man City's owners) and US-based OakView who are the main players. Live Nation are involved too and I'm told that they're seething about what a shitshow the whole thing has been also.

I won't go into detail but I NEARLY played guitar for them at an in-store in Vancouver in 1998. Cracking day and happy memories and ended up seeing Jimmy Page n Robert Plant instead that night instead of Morcheeba at the Uni . P&P were utter shite so I made the wrong call totally that day

Never seen Morcheeba and only going to see them based on their album that I brought in 1998. Led Zeppelin and all that, is something that I have never been able to get into

Never seen Morcheeba and only going to see them based on their album that I brought in 1998. Led Zeppelin and all that, is something that I have never been able to get into I liked Zep and found myself in Vancouver for a few days to kill that summer . I'd seen Page n Plant advertised at GM Place , a vast arena and that day I'd walked round the city and there was some great record stores and one of them had an in-store performance advertised with Morcheeba so I decided to watch. There were maybe 50 people in and Skye and one of the Godfrey brothers were warming up but one was nowhere to be seen, Skuee asked how everyone was and id responded and been clocked as a Brit, so a bit of banter and she said " oh you don't play guitar, do you?! Cos we might need you up here if he doesn't show!", so I'd said I'd oh go on then as I do play . Luckily the other brother turned up imminently so all was well! I went down Seattle shortly after and missed them at the Bumbershoot festival but did see Mike Peters, Shaggy and a few other random acts there. A varied and fun trip !

Imbibed the majesty of the force of nature that is Orbital doing the green and brown tour live last night at Victoria Warehouse in Mcr'.
Despite hating that venue with a passion, a top evening was had by all. Highlights included an encore featuring an ear-splitting version of 'Satan' and the rabble-rousing electro-punk of 'Dirty Rat' (featuring Sleaford Mods' Jason Williamson).
Possibly the most enjoyable bit however was laughing at all the wonky 50 year olds trying to cope with the effects of the recreational drugs they'd inadvisedly done for the first time in 20 years. A lot of babysitters were driven home by saucer-eyed sweaty men last night, a LOT.

Space Witch at The Rigger.
Heavy, loud, repetitive, you could have put this on in a New York gallery and promoted it as an Art Event for hipster beard strokers. However, the Rigger is a long way from that. The sheer brutality of the Space Witch riffing against a background of Hawkwindesque wibbly-wobbly noises, bass and surpringly subtle drums kept the amiable alcoholic crowd pinned into their seats. Each piece degenerated into the next to make one epic slab of sound, a splendid wall of fuzz and feedback.

His new band sound really tight Wasn't there a bit of a tiff last year about who could play and present themselves as the FLC last year? Huey left the band in 2021. Whilst he was still in the band, the other two members trademarked the name worldwide behind Huey's back. Fast and 2 lads from Leicester are carrying on as the FLC but Huey's just going out as The Fun Lovin Criminal. If I was the current members of FLC, I would be shitting it with how good Huey & his new band were sounding at the weekend. Nearly forgot to mention, that Huey's got the original FLC DJ in the band now too - DJ Mateo DiFontaine

The Feeling at the Albert Hall in Manchester tonight. I went with my lad, never seen them live before they were superb. I was expecting a fair amount of audience participation but the audience singing was off the scale. I suspected it would be very good because they're probably the best feel good band of the last 20 years but it was sheer happiness all around the hall. Finishing with Video killed the radio star was inspirational, a track absolutely made for this band

This week, my travels are going to take me into watching Ocean Colour Scene in Leicester on Friday and then off to Blackburn the following day to watch the Stereo MCs play an Adidas Spezial gig

Two gigs this weekend, first was When Rivers Meet at Rescue Rooms in Nottingham. They are a husband and wife Blues Rock band, I first saw them at Steelhouse Festival and female is very easy on the eye & very talented
Then last night Stoke’s own Kira Mac (Rhiannon Hill) who appeared on the voice. Sold out at The Underground in Hanley, packed out and very hot inside. I caught a little of the support Jayler who reminded me of Led Zeppelin.
Kira Mac but on a great set on their final night of their UK tour.
Two decent shows, next up for me is the Foos at Villa Park & a few days later, AC/DC at Wembley 🤘🏻

Went to Wolves Civic last night for Bruce Dickinson, decent support from Black Smoke Trigger, generic heavy rock but well done
Bruce was most enthusiastic to be touring his solo stuff and Mandrake Project is a decent record and new stuff translates well live. Nice varied set covering all his albums and a couple of inspired covers , Frankenstein as a vehicle for them all to feature incl Bruce on bongos lol and a splendid romp through All The Young Dudes . Tight band, sound was loud and clear and he made point of saying every UK show would have a few different songs. He's in Manchester tonight and Nottingham Rock City next week, worth a watch

John Lydon at the Victoria Hall last Saturday doing his spoken word show was great entertainment, amusing, biting and emotional over the two hours. I’m going to see Theatre of Hate tomorrow at The Rigger then off to Manchester on Sunday for Bruce Dickinson. I plan to spend next week recovering my aching bones while my wife kindly advises me that I’m getting too old for all this 🤣🤣
