Just got a few tracks up on spotify. They sound positively bonkers. 👍
Singer sounds like a cross between Falco (rock me amadeus fame), thomas anders (modern talking) and Alexander Bard ( army of lovers )

I thought they were ace. A copper of all people gave me a free ticket outside the venue. Never heard so much talking at a gig though, fucking annoying. Went to the Strokes in Lytham on Friday who were also great. I've seen Primal Scream probably more than any other band (bar New Order and The Chemical Brothers) over the past 25 years and this was the most below par performance I've seen them give. Looked and sounded like they were phoning it in from my vantage point. Conversely, the last time I saw them was also in Mcr at The Albert Hall on the Total Rock and Roll tour pre-pandemic and they were blisteringly good. The best part of the gig for me last night was watching the innumerable portly middle aged blokes in Gazelles and windcheaters staggering about saucer-eyes and sweating and wondering why they'd made such a bad decision after necking two pills in an ill-advised attempt to relive their long lost youth for one night only 🤣 I am a (unportly) middle aged and did indeed have gazelles on but was fairly sober when I got there. So many people as you described were absolutely fucked. I and two other people had to help one guy up the steps as he was so spangled. Think vantage point was key in this one, I got fairly close to front right of stage which helped. Think this is my 4th time seeing them over 26 years and definitely the best for me.

Went to see James supported by the Lightning seeds in Rhyl last night. Having seen James in December they weren't a patch on that performance sadly. Tonight another seaside venue, Scarborough to see Dmas Love Dmas mate 👍 were they as good live as cracked up to be? They are on my tick list.

Seen them at Blackburn, Sheffield and now Scarborough. Also were 3rd on the bill at Courteeners at Heaton Park. Crowd insane. You definitely need to see them. My big covid disappointment was the postponement at Castlefield Bowl.

The last Cornbury festival at the weekend. Often nicknamed Poshstock (it had a Waitrose on site and stall selling a wooden gorilla at £2k!), it does have plenty of good music. This time good sets from Bryan Adams, Altered Images, Steve Winwood, the Christians & the Darkness. The Waterboys were disappointing - looked like they wanted paying & then off. Newer artists Tom Webber, Toby Lee (17 year old blues guitarist who was superb) & Amy Montgomery kept it vaguely modern

Nebula + The Atomic Bitchwax + Ritual King
An evening of stoner rock at Manc's Rebellion, a small venue not unlike The Underground up Hanley.
Nebula's Eddie Glass is a stoner legend as the main inspiration fronting stoner pioneers Fu Manchu, they turned to shit without him.
I've wanted to experience his Hendrixy bombardment since Nebula's superb 2004 Peel session, this was a great venue to finally do so.
First up were Manchester's Ritual King, very impressive polished guitarist pushed along by enthusiastic bass and drums, much better live than their tame first album, worth seeing again.
Initial research into The Atomic Bitchwax, from New Jersey, hadn't got me excited, but live on stage they were superbly awesome. Full on enthusiasm, a tightness from years together and a really good attitude to the audience. "Do you want a fast one or a slow one?" FAST! "It's a trick question - they're all fast" The hugely likable guitarist played like Slash and I thought I could hear a strong Budgie influence- a band I saw four times.
My first glimpse of Eddie Glass, staggering on in straw hat and Indian jewellery was a bit underwhelming, he looked emaciated and tired. His long term British bass player looked utterly pissed off about something and barely acknowledged the fans, that's how it continued. Although Eddie played brilliantly there was no interest or interaction from the band to the adoring audience, the set list left out his best songs, the sound was poor whereas it had been great for AB and the lighting set up left him as a silhouette most of the time. The new drummer was incredibly good, there were moments of brilliance but it didn't quite match Nebula's glory days.

The Steve Rothery Band at the Band on the Wall, Manchester last night.
One of only two dates (the other was Cambridge).
The band features Steve Rothery from Marillion and Dave Foster who has just been announced as the new guitarist for Big Big Train.
The set was 3 instrumental tracks from the Ghosts of Pripyat album and then Martin Jakubski (of Stillmarillion) came on stage and the band did a "Fish" era set of old favourites with Steve Rothery playing some chosen tracks that he hadn't performed live for 35 years.
Brilliant crowd, great atmosphere, and top quality band.

It was weird but also kind of good to go 3 weeks without a gig until the past week, although a band I was due to see did cancel in the middle of that.
Zetra - shoegaze/darkwave/doom band. I love Zetra's recorded stuff - atmospheric, dark and often ethereal. It didn't work quite as well live with only a two-piece and maybe not the best in venue sound, but I still enjoyed them.
Graywave - finally, at about the 6th attempt! I'd missed Birmingham's Graywave for various reasons (including 2 covid cancellations and one for clashing with an England World Cup match last year). She's an all-time favourite shoegaze artist and only has 2 EPs - really epic stuff. That sound didn't quite translate to live, but my ears went a bit weird for half an hour and I'm not sure if that was the problem. Great vocals though and overall not bad at all - I was probably expecting a lot. I'm waiting for the next gig already...
Peter Hook & The Light - I was due to be in Manchester and found a last-minute discounted ticket. I'm not a big New Order fan, and even less so Joy Division. But the 40-minute New Order set was excellent. Also in there was "What Do You Want from Me?" by Monaco - I loved that track in the 90s and don't think I realised Peter Hook was in the band, so that was a great surprise. 2 hours of Joy Division was a bit much, but I gained a new appreciation for them. The songs sound better live than recorded IMO. Shadowplay (I do love that track anyway) and Decades were great.

King King in Holmfirth again at the Picturedrome. It's a fantastic venue and I great place to spend the day eating and drinking, have to do your homework on accommodation though, it's sought after. www.holmfirthtavern.co.uk/This place was a great find too, have their own gigs too for any Country/Americana aficionados.

Was in France last week and a young couple (who are in a band) were raving about Rival Sons. (Never heard of ‘em?) BTW was walking through Hanley this morning and the Sugarmill has some trendy patterns painted on the outside but NOT the name of the venue itself which I found weird?

Seen Steve a few times before but didn't do this one, his singer Martin is brilliant and frankly I find the SR solo material and shows more to my taste than the current Marillion , call me old school but I fell in love with the Fish era at the time and Hogarth never gelled with me, and believe me I've tried. Some great songs in his tenure but annoys the shit out of me live.glad you both enjoyed

There was a fair sing along going on he did joke that he might need a helping hand if he forgot any lyrics. As much as I wanted to continue enjoying them after the split it was a completely different band. Fish's solo stuff never hit the high spots either.

His latest and last record Weltschmerz was excellent but they're both diminished by being apart. I'm no Luddite, I dip in to both bands but I was a huge fan from 83 on and the excitement was NEVER there after the split. I'm wary on this subject as I put some contextual and constructive criticism comments on a Marillion gig about 10 years ago on a Facebook page - I'd been that underwhelmed I left before the encore - and got an absolute barrage of abuse, some PMs also. So yeah Marillion leave me a bit cold now, but the Rothery solo experience is good as.gold , in fact lovely to see him look so enthused playing the stuff the dayjob seem reticent to do.

I still love listening to the early stuff absolutely flawless.

I've seen Rival Sons about a dozen times now. Saw them at Gorilla in Manchester first with about 200 people. This last tour was thrown together as Aerosmith cancelled and they were supposed to be supporting them. It's the first time I've missed the opportunity to see them. They're outstanding live, got a proper frontman and have just got better over time. Toured with Ozzy Osbourne and I that improved them no end when it came to playing to the audience. Full set here -

If anyone's interested Stillmarillion are at the Witchwood, Ashton Under Lyne this Saturday 6th August - £12 in advance £14 on the night.
The show starts at 8.30pm so plenty of time for me to get back from the game to Stockport and make it in good time for the start in Ashton

Black stone cherry were meh in comparison.

There in lies the Tragedy of the piece as they didn't actually play that at the gig much to my chagrin . Atomic Kitten opening softened the blow though , my recall is a bit suspect but I suspect I may actually have married Kerry Katona briefly at the time ,all a bit blurry so may be thinking of the wife instead . Off to get my cowboy hoedown boots out the loft

Went to watch Peter Hook and the Light in Manchester on Friday. I was absolutely blown away. What a show.
Started off at 8pm with five or six New Order tracks. He then went on to play all the songs from Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures and Closer.
Well worth a watch. It was outstanding.
