There is a huge stokie fan base in Shropshire, MASSIVE infact. Be a good game this one. I’d love to see some of the lads from the u21s get maybe a little game time. Playing some nice stuff.
Campbell?

Anyone go to the 2004 Conference playoff final between Aldershot and Shrewsbury at the Brit?
I was there backing the Shrews.

The only thing that registers in my memory is that we had a science teacher [ Mr.Simmons] born in Shrewsbury [he kept banging on about that]
Orrible slimey git, got sacked and put in the nick for" interfering with the 1st yr boys & girls "
That was in the 60"s, hope the bastard is still inside

No surprise in that statement. A section of their support don't realise what a small club they are, it's weird. Some of are fine by the way Could it not be tongue in cheek? Great draw by the way. New ground for me. Clearly it was but some of our lot wouldn't know humour if it bit their funny bone

Rowett needs to pick his strongest 11 and win this game. Anything else will see the Chairman have another brain fart and sack a manager based on a meaningless cup game.

I went two or three times and we always lost. Didn't the Oatcake print a picture of the Shrewsbury team and the Brazilian national side, questioning if our players knew the difference? I think so, though it could've been anyone back then, Shrewsbury, Barnsley, Oldham, Plymouth... Roger "oh goody it's stoke again" Palmer

When and why did Gay Meadow become New Meadow?
I liked Gay Meadow, it spoke of a certain cheerful, mirthful, frolicsome place.
New Meadow is a bit, well, nothing really :-(

New Meadow is a bit, well, nothing really :-( About 10 years ago I think? Don't remember playing them at the new ground so will be a new ground for many. Had some great away days at gay meadow but we also had some shockers didn't Lee Sandford try to play in midfield once and was awful?

I see also in 1978 we played Tilbury, winning 4-0. Pretty rare fixture. I went to that one.

In one of the games Tony Ford scored a “worldy” and we won 3-0. Following year Beagrie refused to be subbed and we won 2-1. A few years later, I also recall Tony Ellis nutting one of their players right in front of us in the seats and pretending to be injured to avoid a straight red card. He got booed off whilst lying on a stretcher by his own fans, and rightly so, the prick.

Someone once told me that he was always getting into trouble when he was on the town on a Sat night.

‘Gay Meadow’ has nothing to do either with being happy or with sexual orientation. A ‘Gay’ was historically a piece of land granted by a local Lord to a Monastery, in the same way as a ‘Glebe’ was a piece of land granted to a vicarage. Medieval English has its charms!

Think we’ve been the new place twice in friendlies.... now we’ll out of town 45 minute walk I would say,up hill-ish mind. I walk fast though. Decent pubs in and around town. Meole Brace is a non descript area, would recommend town then a cab.

same for me - brisk 30 minute walk uphill. very nice newish ground and round here as others have said a strong stoke following - always quite a convoy coming home after a home game and back to Shrewsbury. Still the home of Chic Bates, who is sadly not all that well, but still manages the occasional game at the New Meadow. Hopefully he will be at the match
