I am sure if he is on the bench tomorrow he will walk down the tunnel during the minute silence. Don't pick him tomorrow Also sure they're will be loads without a poppy and still arriving at there seats during the silence. It's not the wearing of a poppy that's my issue it's the minute silence which is disrespectful. If he is in the starting 11 is he going to refuse stand in the center circle and observe the minutes silence with the rest of the players and officials?

Also sure they're will be loads without a poppy and still arriving at there seats during the silence. Yes, but they’re mostly straggler supporters arriving late, most of whom stand and wait before moving their seats. He is already there publicly representing the club, and apparently deliberately making a point. has you say they are mostly stragglers and most will wait ,well a fair few didn't who arrived late on sat ,and has you say he is apparently making a point ? ,either he is making a point or he isn't ?,personally I thought he got caught out on sat with the silence been messed up and I also think he was trying to keep a low profile ,I dont think the club would allow him to make a point .but we will see tomorrow

Terrorist is a pejorative term. He's comparing two people. One of whom was responsible for the death of thousands of people, was on the most wanted list for a decade and the founder and leader of al-Qaeda. The other blew up a furniture shop and died in prison. So Bin Laden was more effective than Bobby Sands? And both received funding from America? 😜

I'm sorry, but it's an excuse that doesn't wash. Everyone else was in place, so why wasn't he? He wasn't there because he didn't want to be there.

Having just read his"apology" again, I consider myself educated, was prepared to let the poppy thing go but dont need him to patronize me or try to split the supporters who the vast majority dont support him. He was wrong in so many ways in his disrespect, just damn well say sorry properly and the situation may start to be solved

You can't see the difference between people paying to be there and people being paid to be there? If he wants to be a professional footballer (and I'm as bemused as everyone else as to how he managed it) then he should act professionally.

That "apology" is shameful really, I wish he'd said nothing rather than that bitter rot. The more you see of the bloke the more you realise he is a fucking prick who doesn't care a jot about prolonging this issue and is happy to drag a club who have treated him brilliantly and has long proud associations with Irish players, through the mire. The bloke is an utter fucking tosspot.

It is odd that people care about his political opinions, I couldn’t care less. It’s like when Tom Daly announced he was gay - I don’t care where Tom Daly wants to put his nob after work.
Fans favourite Mama Sidibe is a devout Muslim, so has beliefs and faith not in tune with some of our fans. But rightly so, nobody gave a shit.

I was previously ambivalent towards the guy but after this shameful episode the cavemen and c@@@s have another recruit. Get this toxic twat out of club as soon as possible and yes I can see what all of the fuss is about.

The bloke is an utter fucking tosspot. Both these posts are bang on. All he cares about is the "James Maclean Show", nothing else matters, the team, the fans nothing. And a brilliant point made about our long, proud, successful and harmonious association with Irish players. The club have been weak here. I am travelling to Forest today one day ahead of 100 years since the end of the Great War. Do not let the significance of this be trashed by one selfish halt wit - if he us in the squad, leave him on the bench ALL game.

Mama wore a poppy, as he didn't give a shit. And he didn't quote convicted terrorists. And he quietly got on with being a Muslim, and observed Ramadan, without making a song and dance about it. Your comparison is of one player who was a credit to the club, and the other who is a complete embarrasment.

Hi as I got labelled as a WUM. I got more winding up to do. Mclean is a Scottish clan name. Sent over to Ireland as mercenaries gallowglass (foreign mercenary). It is way too complicated to go into all the shifting alliances, but you can be sure the Mcleans didn't rock up with flowers to stick in the end of rifle barrels or then equivalent.

My opinion for what its worth...
Coates should have told Rowett to keep him away from the team this weekend following last weeks mess and if he didn’t like it then he could leave too.
But I’m afraid no one seems to have a spine.

It's been done to death this subject and I am propper bored of the subject but unfortunately it is here to stay He should not have been signed simple as that and the people that bought him here want sacking as they are obviously out of touch with the majority of the fan base. He is not a good player that's the crux of it full stop. Now pile on the shit storm that he brings when he arrives. It is not just about the poppy ffs, let the poppy issue go he won't wear one and he shouldn't have to if he doesn't want to, just don't pick him for the team, give him a weeks holiday, it's easy He should not be castigating supporters even though some do deserve it, he is a public figure and as such should rise above it and complain to the relevant departments He should not be quoting his IRA idols in statements regarding the club or it's supporters, he is poking the proverbial bear and he knows it, I actually think he enjoys the vitriol and attention or he is just plain stupid He is welcome to his views but should bury his more contentious beliefs in a country that has been so affected by everything that they stand for, there is still a northern ireland divide and with people like him there always will be, tell me about iniskillen, the sentiment behind that then try to justify that action as true to the cause. Being pictured with Martin IRA mcguiness plus his message of support is going to add petrol to his fire and does him no good at all, this compounded with his poppy stance is a recipe for the attention that he receives If he wants to play here, fine, don't where your poppy, fine....but ffs show some respect to the anthem and flag you decided to earn your money living under or at least sit in the dressing room until 5 mins after kick off and the crowds focus has diverted..... It's not JUST about a poppy and until we drop the whole poppy issue the world will not see the bigger picture of why he is such a figure head for abuse and vitrol from people at football, the poppy issue is actually starting to give him the upper hand in all this and make it a campaign of abuse that he gets for exercising his right to apply what the poppy actually stands for which is respect and freedom

Political views have nothing to do wih it. You - pick your player comparisons a bit better as the 2 players you have made reference to are poles apart. Day off? No mate, just leaving for Nottingham
