If the story of the "gagging payment" to the lady in question is true then Ronaldo (or his legal team on his behalf) have virtually admitted guilt. But you are correct, he is entitled to his day in court. The payment he made a few years ago suggests that he is not too keen to have it though. I will await developments with interest. It could suggest this or it could suggest that the easiest way out of a difficult situation was to make an economic decision that the best way out was to pay off this lady. It suggests that they had sex it's up to a court of law to prove otherwise unless we're going back to the Neanderthal days of public lynchings or as it is known today as trial by social media.
Try reading the article put up by Amazeballs which makes sense of the rationale behind the payment and his ability to work and travel to the USA.
Already read it - thanks for the advice though!

Whatever went on I've got a problem with people who willingly accept a settlement (divorce, compensation, business deal, whatever) and then think its ok to renege on the agreement some years later. I wouldn't dream of doing it personally.
The sure-fire winners in all this, as always, will be members of the legal profession.

Not sure how this is going to play out. Like I said though, I'll be really gutted if he is a rapist. He's one of the few footballer role models for young kids. A world class player, a true professional, who has put 10x as much effort in as many of his peers, has kept away from all the temptations like alcohol, drugs etc and has gone on to achieve things others can only dream of... all from a poor working class background.
..... but a rapist as well. Doesn't quite end the story as heroically, does it? If it's true then he's not a role model, he's an extremely talented scumbag.

It's funny isn't it I regard him as an outstanding footballer but also as an absolute cheat, the very opposite of a role model based on watching him play football over the years, pushing referees for decisions, trying to get opposition players carded, etc. Winker sums it up nicely.

He might be many things but there's not one part of me that believes he's a rapist.

Not seen him push a referee once. As for diving, meh, they're all at it.... even our own. Ronaldo might not be a role model from a 'disciplinary' perspective but he is absolutely a role model for someone who has pushed their body to the very limits of what is possible. It is well known that he was often the first to arrive at training (an hour early) and routinely the last to leave. Dedication, beyond the levels of normal. He is a superhuman, and for some kids, that should inspire them to want to kick a ball after they leave that training session at the local hockey club. Who's the better role model? Fat Wayne Rooney? Drink drives, caught shagging women behind his pregnant partners back, drinks and has a reputation for getting into seedy underhand situations? Cristiano Ronaldo? Doesn't drink, doesn't seemingly have a sordid personal life.... He's crashed a supercar once or twice and has an outstanding accusation of rape.... If he's cleared or found innocent, then obviously Ronaldo.

If he's cleared or found innocent, then obviously Ronaldo. I wasn't referring to physical pushing of referees, more the verbal pushing. You know his favourite pose, sitting on his arse looking up at the referee and the fact that they're all diving makes him as bad as the rest. His wink after Rooney got sent off says everything you need to know about him
Footballers don't make great role models.

For my sins I had to take my son up to OT on more than a few occasions to watch Ronaldo. At least I got to watch Paul Scholes play football. As much as my lad still admires Ronaldo he certainly doesn't hold him up to be a role model.
Did I mention tax cheat in my resume?

You let your child support the $#!t, funded & facilitated it!?! He's a Stoke fan. It took years of patience, perseverance, cajoling and threats Every little bastard at his school supported Manure or Chelski only one a Stoke fan. Even worse when he played footie his team mates supported Manure, Chelski and the Arse with one genuine Man City fan in there from when they were crap. I've put every football shirt on his back imaginable to dilute the threat of Manchester United and it completely paid off.....he's now miserable like the rest of us

Girls footy is ace. When my lad trained a few years back it started just after Stoke ladies finished and my mate's daughter played so I used a watch a bit before we went on. I remember her from early days when she used to play in the mixed teams at the Alex Soccer Centre.
On a similar note I stopped at Exeter Services on the way to Sidmouth a couple of weeks back and Plymouth Argyll Ladies trooped through. The kit looked fantastic and I've got to give it too them they were a friendly bunch
