Because they are under no obligation to sell them to us?
How do you know we haven't?

Because we can't shift millions of pounds off the payroll we are paying players who no one else wants.

I think mostly because our media rights money is going down from £100m to £6m in phases over the next 3 years and even if it weren't you are severely over estimating our riches compared to others in the division, and we don't exactly know who the best Championship players are anyway it's not a definitive list and they would not all wish to come to Stoke anyhow even if their clubs were willing to sell which is highly doubtful. (Oh and Daft's point above).

In Afobe and Ince we have two top Championship players and in Etebo, we potentially have a premier league player.
We have thus far kept Allen, Shawcross, Pieters, Bauer, Butland and Indi. They are Premier League players and good ones.
The issues are behind that. We haven't got enough depth and we haven't shifted enough of the crap out of the door, which tells us another story entirely!

Lets over pay as teams don't want to sell their best players, so they can then strengthen 2 or 3 positions making them even stronger.
Then finding out because we just bought our rivals best players, we now have a team full of players that don't like to play how our manager wants to and find half of them aren't that good, it's the team they played in that made them look that good.

There's nothing funnier than some Billy Big Bollocks coming a cropper. Hope you're prepared for the inevitable piss take mate - just try not to choke on last season's prawn sandwich.

I'd say we have a few premiership quality players let alone championship.
Butland, BMI, Bauer, Etebo perhaps, Afobe, Ince, Allen.
We also have some top championship players too in Shawcross, McClean, Bojan, Williams, Pieters, Affelay, Berahino.. And despite what we think of them, a number of teams would love Fletcher in the championship, both Imbula & Ndiaye if we ever get to see them play on are fantastic players and Cameron is strong depth.
I think we're favourites for a reason.

I get the idea of the original post
Players like Ben Pearson , James Morrison and oli Watkins , will be very effective again I am sure .
Mind you , would probably cost a fortune to sign them

There's probably a position in the middle that might have been more helpful....
As pointed out, we were hamstrung, and very much doubt clubs would sell their best players to us when having promotion ambitions themselves. It would have cost OTT amounts to get Vydra, Gibson, Traore et al - We can't criticise our transfer team for both a lack of frugality and then demand they pay top rates for second rate players. Plus we need to cover so many bases that our budget would quickly run out after 3 x 12m-15m players.
The middle ground = would have liked to see us more active and competitive for the best loan talent that demonstrated itself last year - Harry Wilson, Snodgrass, Woodburn etc And where we needed cover, rather than spend a fortune on the wages of an aging Ashley Williams, look at the c2m-4m players like Webster/ Egan of this world who had a good season last time and may develop further.... Jofezoon etc for wing cover. If these players do, great, we can decide later if they are first choices or assets to be sold. If they don't, we probably still have some asset value and a decent Champs player when the parachute money dries up.

Some players actually want to stay at their own clubs? Some clubs want to keep their best players? Who would have thought...

I'm not quite sure football transfers, weakening opposition and winning leagues is as simple as just going up to rival clubs and saying 'Give us these lot yeah?'.
