Really feel for him.
He hasn't even had a setback. The initial injury was just THAT bad.
Really speaks volumes of the lad that he kept quiet about how serious the injury was as he didn't want to overshadow Liverpool's Champions League run.

Bloody hell. Poor lad. It's a tough game sometimes. Tough bollox. He can't do his job but he'll still pick up more money in year than we can probably earn in our life time. If I'm off work I don't get paid simple as that. If he is seen driving a 1995 Nissan Micra then I might have some empathy.

He's always struck me as a good lad. Not the brightest kid, but a good lad. Very shitty news for him.
How does he compare to his father as a footballer?

I thought we really missed him in the world cup coming off the bench and injecting pace in midfield.
If we'd had him, winks, and gomez in defence rather than Walker, we would have been a lot stronger.
Hopefully he will get back to 100% eventually

I bet you're the kind of person who thinks the likes of Danny Rose has no reason to be depressed and should just 'look at his bank balance and cheer up.'

Poor lad. Never nice to see any professional suffer such an horrific injury.
He will be a long time before he's back and then fingers crossed he may regain some of his confidence and ability. But suffering multiple ligament damage I wouldn't be surprised if he never gets back to that point in his career again.

Very overrated, from Wengers school of kick and run slightly better than walsnot and wheelchair. Have a bit of sympathy for the lad though but, as illuded to earlier, he’ll take comfort in his bank balance every week whereas most people would be left destitute if they were unable to work due to an injury.

Mark Chamberlain was pure winger, sublime dribbling, fantastic crosser, fast, scored goals. Not good defensively. Would be £60m today. Alex is a pretty good midfielder.

I can think of a lot more people I feel sympathy for than a multi-millionaire footballer who's set up for life regardless of his injuries. It's a shame for the England team though.

Sympathy is a finite emotion then? You need to get your head checked if you really believe this warrants sympathy. With all the shit that's happening all over the world, all the people living in poverty, starving to death, in the slave trade, sex trade, dying young, living in war zones, losing loved ones, etc... and you expect everyone to have sympathy for this? You're having a laugh.

You're having a laugh. Can't you have sympathy for two separate circumstances. There's worse things in life as you've pointed out but isn't it a healthy human response to feel empathy for someone who's had something crap happen to them?

Tearing multiple ligaments in your knee sucks. It doesn't matter how rich you are. Not being able to walk/run for a whole year, having to use crutches or braces, and then having to do months of physical rehabilitation sucks. Having it jeopardize your career especially sucks no matter how much money you have.
I guess you also felt no sympathy for Butland when he was out for a whole year with his injury?
