If Southgate picks the team himself instead of letting his bottom lip do it we might just make it through.
Sterling has the look of a player that will never do eet for England. Would start Rashford. Not sure Vardy offers enough. What on earth are you talking about? I'm not even familiar with that phrase ![8-|](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/rY_vRFLA3mqqdMbEG4cF.gif) His bottom lip is so big that I'm convinced it has its own personality, much like the alien foreheads in the not very well known B Movie "Trail of the screaming forehead" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJIWeiuSge8). Time for a meds review perhaps. Or am I on to something?

No, RLC would be the one for me. Dier might bring a bit more from set pieces but he will not support us in open play and playing with a quick tempo.

Late Sweden studio News:
The "experts" want Walker Trippier Dier Henderson (and possibly Sterling) to play.

Defender Lustig is replaced by Emil Krafth. Sebastian Larsson is back in central midfield.
It's the usual 4-4-2.

Interesting fact.
Marcus Berg has caused most free kicks of all players in the World Cup. Marcus is the worst goal scorer in the World Cup so far. 13 shots, no goals. In fact he has not scored for 11 games or so, in a row now ...

That would be a negative move, and would just offer encouragement to the Swedes. Alli has done the square route of naff all in an England shirt for a long time, I honestly don't know how he is a regular. Match them up with 4-4-2, push Welbeck up with Kane, Walker Stones Maguire and Trippier, Sterling Henderson RLC and Rashford, then go for it! Oh, and I have had beer ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/kwfoKwtHI0jglJZ4qZf6.gif)

Not sure Henderson and Alli are needed from the start. Expect them to sit back and soak up pressure.

Two evenly matched teams. Two teams with similar tournament records.
Penalties?

You know, if somebody had said we'd make it to the quarters and win a penalty shootout before the World Cup started I'd have taken that and been happy considering what we've had to put up with over the past couple of decades. Now though, I really fancy our chances against the Islamic Republic and if we do make it to the semis then why the fuck can we not have a litle more luck and go all the fucking way?
Assuming, of course, the team's kitchens aren't mysteriously found to be laced with Polonium after Croatia suspiciously hand Russia today's late game.

Two quick things. Re 'Islamic Republic'-I suspect someone has been reading the Mail and the Sun for too long. Marcus Berg. Yes his striking has been woeful but he's created a lot of space for others.

I don't read the Mail or the Sun - I'm in the United States - so I still don't know what Islamic Republic means in regards to Sweden. Do they have a deal with Iran or something? The official name of Iran is the Islamic Republic of Iran.

From reading on another thread on here I think The Mail or The Sun called Sweden "The Islamic Republic of Sweden" as a result of the "cultural enrichment" (trouble) the country was experiencing (suffering) after it had taken in so many muslim refugees and/or immigrants. I think our friend musik can obviously confirm this as he is Swedish but I seem to remember he said recently that there has been a huge population increase of muslim immigrants into the country and Sweden is suffering greatly as a consequence.

I don't read either of those scummy rags thank you very much. I base my knowledge on personal experience and having more than a few Swedish friends, most of whom who happen to be serving police officers and active military personal. But hey, that's for another thread - this one is about England progressing to the semis of the World Cup.

I think our friend musik can obviously confirm this as he is Swedish but I seem to remember he said recently that there has been a huge population increase of muslim immigrants into the country and Sweden is suffering greatly as a consequence. NOT correct! So please don't just "seem to remember". I never mentioned any muslims whatsoever! We've had many immigrants coming to Sweden (and Germany) in recent years - correct, it's a fact. The thing is though, we have more or less still the same cake to share - it's a fact. So, what I was saying is simply this: We have not built enough houses w flats for this (far from it) it's a fact. And we haven't got enough jobs in the Labour market (far from it) - it's a fact. Result: disappointed swedes AND disappointed immigrants, since they thought Sweden were still like it was in the 70ies-80ies, a happy nation, ABBA and all that, but the real wages have actually declined steadily. It's bad to give people false expectations, for a start. ALL swedish parties have now agreed - from Left to Right and everything in between - Sweden can't be one of just a few countries taking refugees and other immigrants. It is a global thing. And wars must stop. Back to the football ...

Really hoping that we play Kane in a more advanced role and the likes of Lingard and Sterling turn up today, on paper we should breeze past Sweden, I’m going for a tight first half and 2-0 FT.
