I'd stear clear of sky broadband, I have Sky TV but wouldn't touch the broadband, it might of changed now, but just over 12 months ago I ordered it as it seemed like a good deal!
3 months after going 'live' i still had no connection and lost count how many times I had to phone customer support and speak to someone from another country costing me around £60 in call costs and they still didnt sort the problem, they blamed BT and everyman and his dog!!
Eventually I told them stick the broadband and then it took me around 6 weeks for them to firstly accept this and then to remove their marker off my line enabling me to go with someone else!
They might of changed but me personally I would advise anyone thinking about it to steer clear

i had sky broadband about 12 moths ago, and like the others had major problems. after a series of complaints to sky they told me that they would terminate my broadband if i get sky tv turned off first. so thats what i did. think they were trying to push me into a corner but it didnt work. i made a complaint to offcom and then i applied for virgin. ive got to be honest its great. the broadband is excellent and the tv package which i have, i get setanta sports for free. i pay £30 pm for broadband and tv package.

Hey Big Al, I work for the (much vilified!!) Sky broadband and we are actively trying to ensure that the provisioning problems mentioned above do not occur anymore, and that if there is likely to be a problem with the broadband product the customer is warned about this up-front before going ahead and placing the order.
Also, over the last 12 months there has been a lot of work to iron out problems in the process so now if you choose to go with Sky again touch wood there is a much lower chance of your order having problems.
I may be able to help see if you're likely to suffer problems with a Sky BB order, I've sent you a PM.

Have Sky TV, Virign Broadband....possibly not Sky Broadband though, my mate ahd to re-wire his house becasue they told him all the wires in mhis ethernet ports weren't working, BUT they just hadn't given him any internet really!!! cheeky beggars!! Virgin media is pretty bad but Sky V is amazing. Go for that and subscribe to Setanta...

Swapped from Orange to Sky Broadband a couple of months back. went for the mid package that is £5 a month. Had 0 problems with it. Use it for a few hours a day and it has never been down. Get a decent rate of 7Mb download from my desktop and 4.5Mb from wireless.
Would definitely recommend.

Virgin is excellent, I had problems when it was NTL but since the takeover everything has been great. Broadband is tops and the tv is good, only problem is the HD service... subscribed to that but still waiting for other HD channels, not costing me anything extra though so not too bothered.

Ahem, you can get cracked NTL (Now Virgin?) boxes but you can't get a cracked Sky box that I know of.
All channels for free on a cracked NTL box.

Been with ntl/Virgin for about 3 years now. Had some problems, specfically around the Virgin on demand service but that now seems sorted. I've said before that when its working, Virgin is very good - when it goes wrong their service is pretty poo! Also, depending on what you want, the HD service is still crap hence why I am going to go to Sky eventually if this does not change.
Still think its horses for courses though with no stand out winner as it comes down to preference and personal experience
