Could be an interesting trade with any deal for Allen, Butland or NDiaye.
Still, it's the Sun so let's sit tight for a bit.

Sounds complete bollocks. What profit will they make on 12.5m and why would Afobe want the move.

Can they do that isn’t it a breach of transfer regulations. Mind you makes sense as we do like to chase a difficult deal.

With the size of their wallet and ambition, it's debatable surely? They could have been aware of our interest before using their option, and aware that a quick profit was a possibility (he is a name that I've heard as a rumour over the last fortnight) Not sure of the regulations, but presumably he could be loaned out to us with an obligatory buy clause if he can't join another team permanently in the same window ....or it could be bollocks!

Sun claim he's our "Number 1 striker target" and Wolves are "mulling over whether to sell him to Stoke for a quick profit, just 48 hours after using their £12.5m option to buy him permanently from Bournemouth" Is it from Nixon, FM?

No, don't think so, nutter. Don't think Nixon had his usual transfer column in the paper today (well, if he did, I couldn't find it in my brief look through)

Are we really that stupid that we'd offer more than wolves paid only 48hrs earlier for him.

Wiki has him down as a Wolves player already:
"On 1 June, Afobe would sign with Wolves on a permanent deal, for a fee of £10 million.[53]"

Are we really that stupid that we'd offer more than wolves paid only 48hrs earlier for him. The theory at least is that Wolves are not/have not paid a market rate, they are taking up a previously set 'option to buy'. Must admit I hate to think of us feathering their already deep pockets in this way. And I don't see Mr Coates liking it much either, he has already effectively paid Frank Lampard's wages at Derby for the next 2 years by paying up 2 years on the Rowett contract there and I think this one would just finish him off! He'd be pushing wheel barrows full of free bank notes around the East and West Midlands like some summertime Santa Claus, it would surely offend him to the very core!

They can always loan him to us for silly money. A typical Man City, Chelsea trick.

Are we really that stupid that we'd offer more than wolves paid only 48hrs earlier for him. You really have to ask that? The same club that buys a defender for nearly 5 times what Spurs paid for him when he's been a bit part player and only played 15 games in almost 2 years. It's almost nailed on. H

We seem happily haemorrhage money and have our pants pulled down on deals, Wimmer, Saido, McClean & now this.
But wouldnt spend it on the likes on Cedric, Lemina, Maguire when we had the chance.

I know the name but can't recall how effective he was for Wolves I remember he didn't seem to get used much at Bournemouth. Figures like 16m are being mooted, is he as consistent as Dwight Gayle in the championship as you know he is class at that level for goals!?

www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=57575 He only started 7 of the 16 games he featured in for Wolves after joining on loan in January. Still managed 6 goals though! But if he's not going to start regularly in the Champo, you have to question where he'd be in their Prem pecking order - and they haven't really stared spending yet!

The rules state Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during one season. During this period, the player is only eligible to play official matches for two clubs. Since the periods haven't started it's okay no breach of rules and he hasn't played.

I think he's a pretty similar kind of player to Gayle. Been found wanting for a mid-table Prem team, but is the type you really want if you're a rich Championship club after someone semi-proven. Interestingly, doesn't seem to have got loads of minutes at Bournemouth if you think 900 minutes is 10 full games. But obviously Howe got less and less convinced about him as time went on. He doesn't seem to have had any major injuries. I'd be wary if the fee pushed over £15m though. Somewhere around £10/12m and seems fine. www.thesun.co.uk/archives/football/140337/benik-afobe-was-the-one-says-ex-arsenal-scout/He never really lived up to his hype as a youth. www.transfermarkt.com/benik-afobe/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/11085814/15 10 goals in 1251 mins for MK Dons (L1) 14/15 13 goals in 1798 mins for Wolves (Ch) 15/16 9 goals in 2032 mins for Wolves (Ch) 15/16 4 goals in 938 mins for Bmouth (Pr) 16/17 6 goals in 1451 mins for Bmouth (Pr) 17/18 0 goals in 532 mins for Bmouth (Pr) 17/18 6 goals in 697 mins for Wolves (Ch)

They'll be Rowett's, just like the others were Hughes'. The difference in the kind of player we're looking at should be a clue. If there's any truth in the Afobe thing it's a complete no-brainer surely? He's a proven scorer at this level, he's the kind of striker Rowett likes, pacey and will work the channels and stretch teams. Get him in and I'd put money on his being our first 20-goal striker for 18 years.
