news.sky.com/story/fa-nets-wembley-bid-amid-reported-500m-deal-11347203The Football Association (FA) has confirmed receiving a bid for Wembley stadium, in a deal Sky sources understand to be worth £600m.But it is understood the bidder is the billionaire owner of Fulham Football Club, Shahid Khan, who also owns the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team. Sources suggest that if talks are successful, a deal would signal the creation of the first NFL franchise outside the US meaning the England football team to play autumn games across the country rather than at the home of English football.White elephant up for grabs then?

and so it begins ... the gradual breakdown of domestic football.
You might think that sounds dramatic, but once the Americans have got there hands on the national stadium, it can only mean a back and forth of NFL over here and FA over there. Tottenham already bring over the NFL and you can bet it'll be bigger in the new ground.
Once everyone is used to the idea of "it's just one game over there" it'll be in the supporters mindset, and before you know it, it'll be Chelsea Vs ManU at the Hollywood Bowl (midnight KO for us), and then some more friendlies of Barca Vs Man City in Chicago etc ... and before you know it, the money men , will go "what about a Global league involving the biggest teams in the world" etc etc ... Even the Champions league won't be able to withstand it.
£500m also sounds cheap considering it was about £900m to build.

Good news. They can use that money to build a proper national stadium in the Midlands, with decent infrastructure links and not stuck in the middle of a dodgy market.

I bet Tottenham are pleased... I wonder if the NFL might block the move? They have chucked £10 million into the new Spurs stadium and are contracted for around 10 years to stage 2 NFL games a year there. I guess the £10m is peanuts in the great scheme of things but from what I've read, the new Spurs stadium will be much more NFL friendly from the changing rooms to the retractable pitch (American football does tend to wreck your turf a bit!). As an NFL fan too, I will watch this one with interest!

£500m for a 90,000 seater stadium?
Tell him that he can buy a 30,000 seater one in Stoke for half that and it comes with a ready made Championship side (plus a free Kevin Wimmer worth £18m!)

I hate the fact that London gets everything as much as everyone else North of Milton Keynes and agree that some England games should be played at Villa Park, Old Trafford etc.. and I miss fa cup games at Cardiff which is a much better stadium in my opinion but selling the home of English football to an American is embarrassing beyond belief. Nobody cares about your stupid boring game and pushing real football out of Wembley will change nothing, the old slimy gits will pocket the money and England will be forced to pay West Ham a billion pounds to play at the running track. Jog on Khan.

It's £500million for the stadium and £300million for the club wembley sales. £800million total for a stadium that cost £757million to build.

I doubt very much whether this would mean any change to where England play or future Cup finals, play offs etc no doubt these fixtures will be guaranteed as part of any deal.

You really want to watch stoke in a cup final in Solihull ? I can't remember a more joyless occasion than the slow trudge back home on the coach from Wembley after the Cup Final. You get pretty much no benefit from the final being in London because it's in an area that's a complete dump. I really don't see the problem with doing the stadium properly in a proper location.

Some can go down Stoke, others up Hanley, some down Fenton, others up Longton. We'll leave Burslem & Tunstall out of it as they're shitholes no-one cares about. We can even send the VIP's up 'Castle!

Fuck it off, let them have it
Italy have no national stadium (Germans too? 🤔)
England travel the country, we all get to see them at OUR HOME
Cup final? Citeh v arsenal? Stick it in the Midlands. Two London clubs Arsenal and spurs? Send them Chelsea. Citeh v Liverpool? Everton or Manure, or even Bolton. Share the wealth
Nothing detracts from your team being in a cup final 👍

i found Wembley in its current form to be without character or soul, yes it was lovely and clean with nice wide concourses but it lacked an atmosphere, I whisper this but when visiting somewhere like Old Trafford you can feel it has seen some special times and the history in the place
England should tour again and be the fans team not just those down south

London soaks everybody up, infastructure, pubs, food it’s got the lot for 90k people all on a day out Anywhere else has one city centre During the years that the Cup Final and the playoffs were played in Cardiff, fans seemed to manage to get themselves fed and watered OK - just as they do when a 6 nations match is played there. OK the stadium isn't quite as big as Wembley - but Cardiff is only a third of the population of Birmingham, so you'd imagine that Birmingham would have (or would soon get) the catering and licenced premises to cope with a full stadium of 90K + and the presence of a national stadium would give a huge boost to transport links etc. I'm not saying that I think today's news will mean a new National Stadium in England's second city - but if the decision had been made to build a national stadium there, Birmingham would have coped well and for most games many perhaps half of the fans would have had less far to travel. We really are too London-centric in England and the UK - other countries manage to cope perfectly well with a political capital separated from the commercial and cultural capital.

600m doesn't seem that much really. I agree.I was half listening to Talksport this afternoon in the car and they seemed to think that the total deal would be closer to £1 billion. If it is only £600 million then it was hardly worth going to the trauma of building it where they built it. They could have built a better stadium for less money on a brownfield site near the National Exhibition centre and Birmingham Airport.

The money is supposedly going to help grassroots football prosper. They should have been doing this for the last 20 years, not letting the money go to agents and players bank accounts, leaving the UK to other countries etc. The fookin useless halfwits

Netherlands has separate commercial and political capitals as well. But you are right - most European countries have one mega capital as befits the "old world".

again, TAKE THE CASH.
Then rip up the contract regarding England fixtures and have a minimum of 50% of competitive England games played outside of London
